No need to panic fellas!

No need to panic fellas!

It has come to my attention that some people are slightly worried about a recently published article on Vital Pompey 'Speculative Takeover Discussions' but I want to put people's minds at rest.

Look at it this way fellas, everything has to be taken with a pinch salt, the title says it all! 'Speculative', this being the key word - until something official is announced by the club - if indeed it has to - then nothing is true.

There could be complete truth behind this suggestion, or it could be a complete fabrication - paranoid I know - possibly from 'another' Pompey website who perhaps are not happy with how Vital Pompey is regaining the popularity that it might have once lost, so this was viewed as a way to bring us down?

I cannot stress enough how any of those thoughts are not mine, nor have they come from anyone connected with this site in an editorial role.

Yep, with the international break news might be at a premium be we here at Vital Pompey would never, I repeat never stoop so low as to make up something like this ourselves - this will not happen on my watch, I have too much respect for this network as a whole, my beloved Pompey and of course each and everyone of you - our members - to do something like that, a few of you know me personally now, so I would hope you would know this is the case.

If suggestions or proposals are put forward I use them, we are all entitled to our say are we not? So I will not gag anyone - within reason.

The subject appears to have some backbone to it, but the thing we have to remember above all else is that until Portsmouth Football Club officially releases anything - if indeed there will ever be anything to release, then nothing is true is it.

The fella supplying this information seems to have credentials to back up his claims, the Comer Brothers were indeed involved in a failed attempt for Villa - but this was common knowledge that anyone could pick up on - although nothing with any real basis came about so quite what they could offer Pompey, if any such move is being made, or will be made only time would tell - or not?

I have a few contacts that are trying to verify a few things for me, but again do not worry about anything and do take this with a very large pinch of salt - nothing is true until the club announce it is true, this fella could very well be genuine, but then again as said he could be out to make a fool out of me hence I will not put Vital Pompey as fully backing up any claims that are made until I have concrete proof.

However should this come off then Vital Pompey will have had the most exclusive of exclusives, if not someone's failed attempt to 'ruin us' or whatever it was will have done just that - hopefully - failed!

wideblueyonder has put something on the forum side of this article that i really appreciated - i will admit i have worried how people might have viewed the original article - there was some concerned emails sent to me! - but i am very much glad that i went with my gut instinct to publish this follow up article as a result of reading what wideblueyonder said - cheers mate!

Take over, what take over ? You'll b etaken over before you know what's hit you!
09/10/2007 19:37:00
It has been quiet on the takeover front for a long time hasnt it, so this type of story had to rear its ugly head soon didnt it, mind you sucess will bring in the interest wont it?
09/10/2007 19:51:00
I thought it was doing the 'take over' as we soar past past teams into 5th.

i quote 'the source' here fellas: 'the sceptical and considered reaction shows that Portsmouth FC is not in need of saving, and it is our intention not to save the club, but to help build it'... apparently, all being well the news should be running something on this topic tomorrow - at least sometime this week. if they indeed do then this was above board all the time and vital pompey indeed had a major exclusive - even if we were alittle unsure.

Rug - Very much agree with what 'wildblue' says and I'd like to think I speak for most of the 'regulars' in as much as I don't think you'd ever do anything to harm the reputation of this site and/or Pompey FC by making something up just for the sheer hell of it. If this 'speculation' turns out to be true then you've had a crackin' exclusive that you have handled sensitively and with integrity. If, on the other hand it is something which has been issued with a view to bringing the ste down due to it's increasing popularity then whoever instigated it has failed miserably as it has actually generated positive debate about the strength of this site and it's members. At the end of the day you are and editor and have to make decisions on what to and what not to publish, but in many respects it's 'how' you publish that counts and in my book you get 10/10 for the way you have published and handled this one - Keep up the good work Landord :)

cheers mate - i too thank you and appreciate what you have said...

sorry, was co-ownership suggested, or was it being suggested it was an outright takeover? if it were co-ownership, then i see a slight posibility. outright takeover, i maintain: no chance.

...seeing as i am in constant contact with sascha, i know this so well ;-)
