'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Another fantastic Saturday!

This time last Saturday Pompey were 2-1 up against Reading, with the half time toilet break and refreshments being taken - six quid plus for three bottles of Ribena and a Yorkie, we were just glad they were wearing masks! - little did we know what a 2nd half we were in for, but what a fantastic Saturday that was - now I personally have had another today!

England went into the Rugby world cup quarter final with our old foe the Aussies as such underdogs it was unreal, few gave us the chance both in this country or in France - and to be honest neither did I - but lightening struck twice and we managed to beat the Aussies 12-10 to march onto the semi finals.

Absolutely amazing, this of course clearly does not top Pompey's incredible 7-4 win last week, but it comes close to it. And to think the South African's battered us just a couple of weeks back.

England, the current world champions are able to keep this tag - at least for a while long, now we wait for the winner of the New Zealand and France match, taking place tonight. The Kiwi's will almost certainly be strong for us - surely? - so the French would be my preferred opponents, but bring on whoever they are.

Yep, I know this is a football site - for Pompey at that - but those of us that are English must all be basking in this glory! I love beating the Aussies at anytime, today was no exception but perhaps it meant even more after the build-up to this match.

It is a great start to the weekend, I think mine will carry on with a few more jars today and then to cap it 3 points at Fulham would be perfect - and we will get them too!

PLAY UP POMPEY! - AND THE ENGLAND RUBGY TEAM!

even at the 78th minute, i did not think england would win! The France-Newzealand game was really mucked up by the french, as it is going to be in cardif - so the french will not get the home advantage. If france win, which i doubt, england stand a chance. if new zealand win, then we are out...in the same way that 3 hours ago, we were out...

but last saturday was better.

This saturday by last saturdays standards, is rubbish. Good on England though. They'll have Lewis Hamilton to compete with at the Sports Personality Thingy of the year if they go on to win the WC however.

What a performance by the England Rugby team, it makes you proud when they turn in a shift like that. I hope they manage to get to the final, and then anything can happen, and it would be great to beat South Africa woudnt it?

I was really excited watching the game, just wish i knew the rules....if there are any!

...sitting here, new zealand are drawing with fance 13-13. i EXPECTED new zealand to run away with the game, but wouldnt expect england to beat either of them in th semis. im guessing most people arnt big rugby fans on this site? there are rules/laws - and they are much more restricting than football.

...the saturday just got EVEN better. france beat new zealand!!!
pompeycarpet
nope im not a big rugby fan tbh - but i am a fan of watching england most the time and the world cup in general... the french were good tonight, but i reckon we can beat them - altho tbh watching that match i felt we could have beaten either team next week had we played like we did against the aussies...
pompeyrug
our forwards against the aussies were good - but then, the aussie forwards were bad. If we want to beat the frnech, then we would need to play the same again. The reason new zealand looked bad was that france were VERY good defencivly, and never missed a tackle. England are not that good, and the kiwi backs would have ripped us to pieces...

Bl00dy Baggies.

Indeed bl00dy baggies - spoilt an almost perfect Saturday (again) but then came Sunday ...... We beat Fulham, we are 5th in the table and i'm begining to believe we can pull off a european place with ease .... but still a long way to go ..

Re the rugby I really didn't have a clue what was going on during the game (5th phase, 6th phase ???) but I watched it because it was England and must admit got quite into it - I've no idea if we can beat France but bring it on ........ When is the semi anyway ??
Chix
we play france on saturday at 8pm - im looking forward to it! some of the rules in rugby are 'strange' to say the least, but then again maybe they feel the same about football? one thing that really grinds my gears about rugby tho is that fact that when you have points scored again you you are kicking the ball back to the team that just scored points against you - so unless you can win the kick off, or get a knock on or something it hardly seems fair...
