Davis the main man for September

Davis the main man for September

Sean Davis was Pompey's the player of the month for September! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompeyrug's poll are thoughts that I completely share.

Davis has come in for so much stick this season - I have not been his biggest fan in the past I will admit - and to be honest he would not have been one of the names on my team sheet, but during September, probably before to be fair, his form was fantastic so he is now one of the first names that I probably would put on this team sheet!

He seems to have really found his feet and is revelling in his new found role in front of the back four making so many crucial challenges - as he did against Blackburn and several times against Reading - although he is still getting forward too, but still has not quite mastered the attacking art as he once used to, but did open his account against Reading last week and almost had a couple more.

The fella has been fantastic, often doing a lot of work that goes unnoticed, but clearly with him being voted our star performer from September we did not miss this over the past 4 weeks. Davis for England anyone…

What the poll asked - 'Pompey's player of the month for September?'

How you voted - Sean Davis 35%, Benjani 24%, Niko Kranjcar 15%, Sylvain Distin 9%, David James 6%, Papa Bouba Diop 4%, Sulley Muntari 2%, Other 2%, Sol Campbell 1%, John Utaka 1%, Kanu 1%, Glen Johnson 0%

Current Poll - We seem to have found a nice little run of form, with the Arsenal match giving us a wake up call as we are now unbeaten in league and cup since then and scored a magnificent 7 against Reading last week, also winning our first away game in 9 months the week before, but what will Fulham bring.

With Pompey all too often we have the sublime followed by the ridiculous but with confidence at an all time high with all players really finding their form surely we cannot slip up against Fulham? Back to back away wins is a rarity but can we do this, will we draw or will we disappoint as in the past - this is want pompeyrug wants to know with this - 'After Reading last week what do we expect against Fulham this weekend?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

I've always rated him, and think fans are unfair when they only use Saves, and Goals as measuring sticks. Good on him, he will be a big assett for any team, and im glad he's in ours.

Rug as you know i completely disagree, hard work ok, committed ok but quality, not the word i would normally associate with Davis ive seen him play too many times
04/10/2007 16:59:00
I was a 15 percenter
04/10/2007 17:00:00
and ive put another tenner for an away win on sunday
04/10/2007 17:01:00
i was a 15 percenter too - although that was largely based on his last performance. Suen has been CONSISTENT - passing the ball to a suitable standard, and tackling well. h held everything together for diop and muntari ti muck around with.

I did vote for Davis, I've said more tham once that his value to the team is in doing the work that lets the flair players do their thing, his workrate and attitude are spot-on and I think redknapp has him on the team sheet as one of the first names

oh yeah of lot of little faith, back in the summer i was standing up for this man. am was in a minority, just like i was slating Kanu. God it's good to be wrong sometimes
04/10/2007 20:55:00
I voted davis. Dont see the problem with him as some do. Game of opinions!
04/10/2007 21:17:00
agreed pompey4me, i just don't think he is a quality player, i do accept that there is a place for the workaholic headless chicken in a team but preferably a team like fulham. HR loves him cos of the practical jokes and his team spirit and commitment and i can go with that, but my thought is just because he has risen to mediocre doesn't make him good enough for pompey. i suppose that was my issue with HR dumping on Gary O, as he was Davis with skill and at the time Davis wanted out, also it seems HR has given up on real class football for something a bit more basic and aggressive, i think there is a balance to be had and Davis ain't it. as i said before i think i have seen him play most every game and i always feel he leaves something to be desired. I voted for Krunchie as he is blooming into a working, creative class player who really would be difficult to replace.... just my opinion chaps
