Spot on Muntari happy to share
Sulley Muntari has told the Pompey Site how nothing was pre-arranged for him to take the penalty against Reading last weekend, he just wanted it so he took it - and how he did!
After such a penalty - when the smashed it into the roof of the net - you would expect him to be the first to step up next time, but he is happy to share the penalty duties round: 'I just got the ball and decided to take it to take it. I'm just glad it went in.
'Every game is different so if someone else wants to take a penalty next time, then I will not stand in their way. We're a team and everyone is capable of scoring'.
I think his thoughts basically sum up the togetherness of this squad now - we have so many talented individuals but they play for each other, not themselves.
I know that Harry Redknapp had said that he had wanted Muntari to take the penalty against Liverpool, the one which Kanu took and missed, so when we were awarded this kick he was the man I expected, but to be honest I was not sure I wanted him to, but if he keeps taking them like that long may it continue.
After Niko Kranjcar's fantastic run initially I wanted him to take it, as I felt he had earned it - plus he had taken a fantastic penalty against Liverpool in the Barclays Asia Cup Final to win us that cup.
It also looked as though he wanted it too, but then it became apparent he was looking to get approval for David Nugent to be given it, something that the fans were very vocal on, with the shouts of 'Nugent, Nugent, Nugent', so he was then the man I hoped would take it, but had this fear knowing his luck he would miss! Either way Muntari grabbed the ball and ripped the ball into the back of the net, which was the most important thing.
When he is on the field Matty Taylor would always be the man I would want taking the spot kicks, but if he is not then almost anyone bar Kanu would fill me with confidence.

Agree Rug - Taylor always for me if he is on the pitch, and definately not Kantdo - To be honest other than that I really don't care who takes it as long as they are confident ....... and score of course !

not kanu, and taylor when he is playing other than that, Nugent (at the moment) should be taking it. Kranjcar, who earnt the penalty, wanted nuge to take it - and we didnt really need the goal, if he were too miss.

Muntari gave the ball a spanking and looked like he had the confidence to take them, so if he is on the pitch let him take it.
At the moment Matty will struggle to get in the team, which is a shame as i think he is a decent player and a good penalty taker, thank goodness, but Muntari looks like our best bet if we do get a spotkick

I agree with the comments on Taylor and Muntari, I always feel if you smash the ball and the keeper saves it, fair enough, its the poncy penalties that annoy me

Ponct penalties, i like that expression and Kanu does take a poncy penalty doesnt he!!
Mind you remember the cup semi final, there were some poncy penalties taken that night.

i think we should be getting Nugent all the chances we can but if it is a close game then we should play safe as goals make points and we all know what points make

prizes! muntari said he was going to place it, but saw the keeper move early, so just smashed it...suggesting he is a bit of a cunning penalty taker ;-)

Matty must be gutted to sit on the bench & then see 2 penalties awarded & not a sniff.

The Yak never convinced me with his penalties, but I don't recall him missing one

....... Then there was Lu-lu towards the end of last year... I was convined he'd miss... but I was happily proved wrong

most players i feel should score and do ultimately beleive that they will - but tbh my 1st thought - even if i dont think it just after this tohught - whenever we get a penalty is 'were gonna miss'...
