Pompey debate of the day (27/09/07)

Today's hot topic of debate for the fellowship of Vital Pompey is surrounding the league cup and how far you actually believe we can go in the tournament?

Can we win it - I think we can and I have got my money on it!

It would be great to get to the final, and we have to believe that we can go all the way,and i hope the draw is kind to us. I could die happy if i could go to Wembley to watch Pompey, and what a noise we would make. Believe boys believe.

To be honest is it really so important. If it gives fringe players a run and rotates the squad that's fair enough. However with the FA Cup starting in early January and countless important Premiership League fixtures, I for one am glad we didn't make Europe last year. Don't get me wrong, there could come the time when we could handle it. For the moment let's go from strength to strength, consolidate in the big arena.....and then, and only then, let England and the World know how good and strong POMPEY really is. Until then we keep etching our way up...sorry UP.

It's all about thye draw. If we get home to Luton we are thru. Awat to Arsenal & we are probably out. Round at time & game at a time. PS. Getting some crap from the green jocks, slagging of Fratton Park. On their Vital website we have have come 3rd for the best atmosphere in a ground. Liverpool were 1st & Celtic Runts were 2nd. Go have a look.

we all know, that we COULD, had we entred the intertot cup, got into europe last aeason. Instead, we choses not too, as our squad does not have the depth. However, with the carling cup, we are only talking a couple of extra games, that can be used to show the rest of england how good we are (those who donjt follow the PL, but do follow cups), and make sure that everyone knows we mean buisness. Of course, we could get an unlucky draw, but, with a 50:50 chance of it being home, and a chance that it could be non PL, we could do well. Also, dont forget, arsnal will only play youngsters, and we gave there first teama good game last season, so even that would not be a tragedy. Liverpool, and Chelski, ok, we dont have the best records against them, but they dont take the mickymouse cup seriosuly - both will be going for the PL, so we have a chance against them. If we make it an aim, there is nothing we cant do. ...in the cups...

I beg to differ on the depth of quality in our squad carpet. if you replaced Primus for Distin in the Carling team on Tuesday, that is another complete prem 11 that would more than hold its own in the prem. Looking at Man u's team out last nite, I would give our boys a heck of a chance. I would say that they could compete with the likes of Derby, Foolham, The smoggies and Wigan, and on this seasons form Bolton. WOW!! 2 prem quality teams at Fratton...my how times change!!

Dependant upon the draw, most likely semi finals, if you look at the expected timing of the rounds and our PL games of that same period we should be on a charge for a UEFA place so we probably should not put out our 1st 11. as for depth of squad, we do not have the quality of depth to take on either liverpool, the arse or chelski with anything less than our 1st team

we can beat anyone at home, the gooner kids a pretty special, but the liverpool replacements dont frigthen me too much. i looks like grant will be playing a strong side in this cup as he cannot afford any slip ups can he... ideally 2 of the big 3 will face each other with the better side going out - role on the draw anyway...

Big Ben returns!

There's no doubting how important Davies is to us, we most definitely missed the former Sheffield United man against Orient but Cook's confirmed he'll start against Bristol Rovers.

Winning over the fans

Cook feels he still has to 'win over a proportion' of the fans at Pompey?

Tubbs surprised...in a way he has a point

5-goals in a combined total of 8-matches isn't a bad return is it so having made his move to Eastleigh this week I get Tubbs' point at his surprise Cook wasn't selecting him.

Pompey Predictions League - update no.28

The Pompey predictions league is very much part of this site now! This continued with a defeat to Orient last Saturday.
