Nugent hopes for more opportunities

Nugent hopes for more opportunities

David Nugent has told the Daily Star, interesting choice of papers in which to break his media silence, how he is hoping that his league cup winner can bring him further opportunities in the Pompey first team: 'this competition gives some of the players who haven't been playing that much a chance to prove themselves to the manager.

'Obviously the priority is the League, but, as a striker, scoring goals is what gives you confidence, whatever the competition.

'Now I hope I get a few more opportunities to prove myself'.

And so do I!

I have made little, or no secret of the fact that I hope that he gets a run of games, so I am sorry to bang on about this again, but I cannot stress enough how I feel the run of games we have coming up seems the ideal opportunity to give him this run.

It would give him a huge confidence boost if Harry Redknapp turned round and told him he was starting against Reading at the weekend. Given a run he will not only play well, but also create goals for others and score them himself, I am as convinced now as I have always been.

Reading are a good side but I can see us creating plenty of chances against them on Saturday and also see us scoring a few goals in what could be a decent win, with Nugent among them if he gets his chance - well that is my prediction anyway, if you have not already made your predictions in the Pompey predictions league on this match you ca do it here.

The opportunites will come for Nugent, and he will have to grab them with both hands. we have all said before that we are a tolerant crowd, but there will come a time when we will expect him to deliver and he has to accept that. He is fine at the moment, but if called for against Reading and Wigan two of the lesser back fours in the division i would expect him to be able to deliver against them, or am i being too tough on him?

...but Reading would be a good place to try out all his skills, rather than reading a book on the sidelines.

I agree with the comments, but i wonder why we are expecting him to clck straight away when neither Yak nor benji did, we should perservere with him. Talking to a so called "expert" Martin Peters (pah we say..pah) at the spurs Boro game he feels our Arry sets the team up to play "hold up football" to suit Kanu and every body else has to fit in to play that way but it is a style of game to that of Nugent in that it is more through ball.

sorry i meant to write, but it is a "different style of game to that of Nugent in that it is more through ball". He was a nice chap our Martin, who also reminded me to feel hard done by when Zokora dived at pompey's last visit, he reckons 7th place for us this year

refering to the article i wished Nugent had broken the story in the daily sport then i would have an excuse for it being in my brief case

we expect him to do mwell, becasue whenever he has played, he has always managed to get into potential scorring positions. he has always tried hard, and, having scored in 2/2 carling cup game, there is no reason for his confidence to be low. But, more importantly, for me, it is not really expectation, it is simply hope...

well according to physioroom/table whatever it is.com it seems Kanu and maybe Benji will be out for the reading game so we may have to play Nugent and Utaka anyway, that will make things interesting. If that did happen LoL i think to ensure goals we would see Taylor play and loads of falling down in the box for MT penalty chances

I think the only way Nuge will get a chance this season will be through injuries and the ACON's, if he does start with Utaka I think that will cause Reading real worries, Interesting.
