He doesn't need to play all the time

We love Kanu, but feel Harry Redknapp does not need to play him all the time! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompeyrug's poll are thoughts that I share.

Kanu is a class act, this cannot be doubted and last season when many criticised him I vocally backed him but I do get frustrated at times with Redknapp so reluctant to give others a chance at times though.

He has started this season very well once again, but in some matches a more mobile and energetic striker than Kanu is needed. In many cases - particularly when we play that lone striker - with him being it if we took this route with someone else at times, with those qualities that he can lack we could be laughing.

However Redknapp is the gaffer, so I also agree with the thought that if he is happy then so am I to a large degree, and when all is said and done Redknapp is paid to pick the side.

What the poll asked - Redknapp loves Kanu; I mean he really loves him - do you?

How you voted - Yep but I wish HR wouldn't play him all the time 51%, If HR is happy so am I 27%, Yep he is a genius 17%, No he is lazy 4%, No he is holding others back 1%

Current Poll - We would all love to see Pompey produce some of its own talent, and with our far more professional approach now this could happen.

This idea was sent to me some time ago but for whatever reason it was not used, but with Sol Campbell again vocal recently on improvements he would like to see, along with the league cup seeing many sides rotate things, the thought of us producing our own players again came into my head, as it has others, particularly russellm - as I say some time back - and this is what he wants to know with this - 'Given HR's preference for 'experience' can we have a worthwhile Academy from which to find a star?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

You have to play your best players, the ones in form & the ones who can do it. Sentiment comes a very poor 2nd to results. You risk dropping Kanu & hope Nugent does it. If Nugent takes half a dozen games to find his feet & we don't beat the likes of Reading, Wigan & Fulham then everybody will be screaming at HR. Oh to be a manager & getting the balance right.

its a tough job isnt it mate and not one that i would want to do tbh. it seems easy in theory, but put it into practice and most of us would be screwed... i think kanu is fantastic, but it does frustrate me that kanu seems to play no matter what...
pompeyrug
When Kanu was at WBA he couldn't hit a barn door. Does that come down to HR and how good he allows him to play when most suited. Who I ask can cast the first stone...if Kanu scores he's a Pompey hero, and if he doesn't...Fans are very fickle and Pompey ones are no different. He simply does what others cannot. Harry Hero or not he will do for me what others cannot. Pompey fans unite, for if he scores again against Reading (or even has a brace) you will all say Kanu is our hero.

Kanu has a style which has always made him look lethargic and lazy, football fans like players to run long and hard like Benji, and i am guilty of that. Kanu does have the habit of scoring goals and we have to acept he will not charge around the pitch closing people down etc. However if he is fit !!! i would always give him a go in the team, and tell Dave Nugent to learn from him, maybe he should start alongside him for a few games and see how clinical he can be, and how to hold up the ball and link the play.

not only does kanu score goals, but he also sets them up. He is a great playoer - but sometimes, you can be so great, that you apear lazy. Why is it, that he is always in the right position at the right time? Other playors (like benji) will run for ages, and never get in the positions he gets into.and he can score. The problem is, that when he stops concentrationg, the goals dry up. and we are left without a striker. oh well. on current form, he can play, but only on current form.

Nugent needs playing time - which is why i would suggest the unimaginable v- drop benji to the bench for the next few games! Nugent NEEDS to play, and Kanu is playing well, so that would be our best starting pair. for now.
pompeycarpet
and it is a shame with the current poll, but we will have to stop nicking southhamptons decent playors at some point...
pompeycarpet
benji looks like he is out anyway, kanu will prob be fit so im all for giving these 2 a go together, they have not been paired together yet have they...

I agree give Nuge and Kanu a go, but TBH great players can look lazy, dare I mention on our beloved site, Tiz from, er, down the road! Even Gazza looked lazy but then bang they did something unbelievable. Nuge needs games to build confidence, but I don't know if Harry is seeing something in training that is putting him off or if he is trying to protect him. I feel bloody sorry for the kid though.

i hope it is the latter mate and he is protecting him...
