Come on Dave, you can do it!

Come on Dave, you can do it!

David Nugent was handed another league cup start by Harry Redknapp last night and he duly answered the call with his 2nd goal in as many league cup ties, to move him within one goal of top scorer Kanu - not bad for a player 'that is struggling' is it!

Games and most importantly goals breed confidence, so after this with the run of games that we have coming up it would appear and ideal time to give him just that, a run of games.

Kanu - like it or not - is a near certain starter, so it is a case of who, if anyone, starts alongside him. Benjani seems to be struggling with an injury so with John Utaka much more affective on the right side of midfield the door appears to be ajar for Nugent.

Redknapp says that he needs to take his chances when the come, as said we appear to be heading into a near perfect opportunity for this, so provided he is given this run I have this feeling we could be about to see the real David Nugent stand up, and when he does any doubters will be well and truly silenced just like the boo boys at Burnley were on Tuesday night!

he needs conficence, and he isnt getting that sitting on the bench. he has got two goals in his two cup starts (has he started an league games? cant remember) - so given the chance, he is getting in the right positions, so more goals will come!

oh, and just read " " - we are third? this cant be right? must be some kind of bias because we dont have a big enough stadium?!?!?!?!
26/09/2007 16:16:00
cheeky ********s, they say pompey is 'bizarrely third'... clearly the idiot that wrote that article does not spend much time paying attention to football - as if they did there would be no 'bizarrely' about it and the fact that the atmosphere at fortress fratton is so good!

he started the opening couple of games didnt he, but other than that it has been from the bench if at all... i really hope that 'arry gives him a runout in the next 2 or 3 games as they have goals from pompey strikers written all over them...
26/09/2007 16:31:00
I was guessing that when he said "bizzarly third" he mant we should be first :P...although it is more likely that he thought we should be...elsewhere... We know we are the best fans in te country, Liverpool fans know it (particualy when we outsing them at anfield) and everyone else does. We dont need a survey to prove it!

I agree give him a go! I think against Reading he could have some real joy. Reading looked really vulnerable to the quick break.

ah, my bad you are prob right mate - he must have meant bizarrely as in why werent we top... i just saw the red mist without thinking about it :)
26/09/2007 17:39:00
yep, i think we will give reading a good seeing too so if nuge gets a game, or most of a game i reckon he will score.
26/09/2007 17:40:00
Needs to play to score.

i entirely agree with pompeycarpets first posting and pompeyrug above, as for the metro as someone who takes the freebie papers everyday in london, i can advise it is officialy the third most popular paper, out of three

Good luck Ben!

In an ideal world Davies would have agreed a new deal and stayed with Pompey next season but Grimsby have been able to offer him the stability of a two-year deal we couldn't.

Versatile former Arsenal man in on trial?

Deacon, who started out with Arsenal has been with Stevenage and Crawley with the latter releasing him at the end of last season. Cookie will 'run the rule' over him in pre-season?
