Villa in for Pedro Mendes?

Villa in for Pedro Mendes?

The transfer window is shut, with it not opening again until January but this does not stop the transfer rumours from going on, with the latest word from the Sun being that Villa will offer £3m to prize Pedro Mendes away from Pompey.

You get rumour after rumour, with so few actually coming off, but Villa were said to have been in for him during the summer so I am slightly worried that this could have some backbone to it - although I very much hope not.

Mendes has found it tough to get into the side this season, with Harry Redknapp more often than not taking the 'pace and power' route, something that he really believes is essential to push us on, so this could cost arguably our most creative influence in midfield his place at the club?

Since the infamous Ben Thatcher incident he has not quite been the same player, which is understandable, had someone basically assaulted me I would have been more than a little shaken up and psychologically harmed without doubt, the second 'targeting' from another Man City player at the time - Joey Barton - must have also shaken him a little.

He returned for the league cup tie with Burnley last night and although he did not have a bad game, it was not one of his better and he seems to be lacking, maybe this is confidence, a lack of football, or still some after affects of the above mentioned attacks?

Either way I would be completely devastated if Redknapp allowed a truly classy player to leave, particularly for such a paltry sum of £3m, what about you? - However I do have this worry that he could well be offloaded...

Yes, this has been mentioned before. I think Harry's priority in Jan will be another striker and funds will need to be found as I don't expect Sascha to put anymore in so I wouldn't be surprised to see Pedro move on plus a couple of others. Shame though, great player.

would like to see him at villa, whenever i watched him play for you he always looked to have good vision and used the ball well. Not to mention his eye for a pass and stunning goals. He would add more balance and experience through age to our midfield, still only 28 aswell. If there are two managers in this league that can get the best out of players its Rednapp and O'Neill.

tbh mate i dont blame you in the slightest for wanting him at villa, he is a great footballer - he really is! the word 'great' is used far to easily, but i really do rate him as a great player... we might need to raise money for a striker, but selling mendes would be a worse thing than selling o'neil...

As a Villa fan I like the sound of signing Mendes. He has different qualities to our other midfielders. See him perhaps taking over the role of Patrik Berger in the squad who will be in his last season with us. Experienced, classy passer of the ball who can open up defences. Would supplement Reo Coker, Barry, Gardner, Osbourne and Petrov nicely. MON may be tempted to part with Petrov. Isn't Harry a big fan of his? Possible swap move? January will tell!

berger, now there was another classy player - it was a real shame when he left too... tbh i wanted petrov when he decided to go to villa but would much rather have mendes now as altho ive not seen as much of petrov as clearly a villa fan has ive not been that impressed with him really.

I'd love him at Villa, we need a player who actually loves shooting :D

Whatever happens a legend in our recent history. For that last minute goal against Man City, for those of us there or not, he will be remembered & we will be forever grateful.

Any chance of you letting us have Matt Taylor as well! Please...

Sorry Villa fans but not for sale. Pedro started the season poorly and that is why he is not in the side. Once he hits his old form he will be back in the side to stay.

Harry has just been talking about how great it is to have such strength in depth - and he is not likely to move on from there! we (probably) sold GON to raise funds - just a little oo late to use them - so i wouldnt be surprised if we got a decent striker in january AND kept everyone. I hear defoe isnt getting even a place in the squad these days...regretting his decision do you think?

Topping last seasons tally the aim

78pts was only enough for a play-off place last season so you suspect we'll have to better that for a top 3 finish this coming season, which begins with Carlisle at Fratton.
