6th place will do nicely

I would back Pompey to finish 6th this season! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from muffdaddy1983's poll are thoughts that I share in as much as I think we could well be in or around that kind of area.

Going into this season I was always of the opinion that we had to match, or better our 9th place finish from last season otherwise I would be disappointed.

As tough as the league will be this season, even with what many could have viewed as a disappointing start to the season, but more in as much as we maybe did not get the points we might have deserved, we are still there or thereabouts, only a few points away from the top 2 or 3 let alone anything else.

My own expectations for the season are a European place, something I feel that we can achieve so long as we address our away form - which hopefully the win over Blackburn will prove a catalyst - so my thinking is that we could still finish somewhere between 4th and 7th/8th, so if we do I will be very happy.

What the poll asked - Where do you think Pompey will finish this season?

How you voted - 6th 24%, Bottom half of the table 22%, 8th 20%, 7th 12%, 1st 11%, 5th 5%, Relegated 4%, 4th %, 2nd 0%, 3rd 0%

Current Poll - Kanu stayed after the long drawn out saga over the summer, what is more he has stayed and played - and started - just about every game this season.

He has once again been superb in the opening months of the season, with Harry Redknapp often giving him glowing reports, but does he at times play too often, would you sometimes prefer a different player had a game instead, this is what pompeyrug wants to know with this - 'Redknapp loves Kanu; I mean he really loves him - do you?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

Yes we would all take it given half a chance but realistically more likely to be 8-11. if we get close to 50 pts again we would have had another great season. Something to keep building on. Let's engage head as well as heart.

so long as we match or better last season it will be a good season, anything less than that and it will be a disappointment tbh - for me anyway... head and heart both genuinely tell me we can improve on last season tho anything between 4th - 8th is what i reckon...

6th is reserved for chelsea so choose another position

What else can I say?, get to 40 and safety(the old pompey fan in me, cant shake it off) then aim for 50+ now that would be a cracking return. As much as that tho a good cup run would be fantastic, starting tonight; not much else compares to the excitement of that....

no, we have to stop aiming for 40, becuase we will stop when we get there. 50pts in reasnable, and realsitic - and would provide continuity eith our step up. Consistency with last season would be good - and more consitent wins, home and away.

i agree, just as i said i cant shake off that imaginary points barrier! to many weeks spent hoping we'd get to it. I never said we wouldn't do it this season, which if you read my piece, i said i would hope for 50+. I bet the majority of Pompey fans seceretly will be thinking the same and will only really start enjoying themselves once we're past it!! we all enjoy the season as a whole, but we wouldnt be Pompey fans if we wern't just a little pessimistic.....

well, untill we are past 40 points, i wont be happy...you never know, our players could all collapse...although if we only pass 40 points on the last day of the season, i still wont be happy. If we get there with 10 games to go, at least - and finish strongly, THEN i will be happy, and able to relax, engoy some good footbally, and hoe i will get to see more games next year when we play in europe :D (i wish)

We might feel that we can now sit back and relax after playing the big guns but we must prove that we are more than capable of mixing it with the others. This will be our next stern test. If you remember last year we didn't exactly set the world on fire against the likes of Charlton and Watford now did we ?

certainly not, if we do that we will get turned over wont we... but we are now another year wiser, so we should have learnt from that kind of thing, with defeats, or struggles against teams of that ilk behind us... hopefully...

You are right Gray, we now have to push home the good work and beat Reading and then Wigan. Time to let the football do the talking and show that we can play, and that we stop teams scoring whilst we get loads of goals.

Penton I ageee with you mate ....safety first... I'll always want more... 50, 55, even 60 .... but until we get to 38 I'll always be in a state of nervousness - that's not to say I don't think we are capable or indeed will get more, even finish top eight or even topo five but I don't reckon there's a footie fan on this earth who doesn't sit on the loo studying the leagues tables in the paper and at some point realises, even it top of the league at the time, that thinks .. well we are safe for another year ....
