O'Neil - it did not seem right

Yep, I know I have to move on, as we have/are with the departure of Gary O'Neil but it still did not seem right to see him in a Boro shirt - as I did for the first time Saturday when I sat down to watch match of the day.

I could not quite believe the commentator saying that Boro captain George Boateng 'had been left out to accommodate O'Neil', which surely cannot be right - Boro do not, or should not be needing to simply 'accommodate' O'Neil in their side should they?

He was still being played on the right of midfield for them though, so that has not changed, nor has his drive and ability to pull out a pin point cross, as he did for the first Boro goal.

A lot has been said about his being allowed to leave, so this will not be brought up again, but getting used to seeing him play for Boro will take exactly that - some getting used to.

The first time is out of the way so it might not seem quite as weird next time, but it will when we play Boro soon and he comes up against us - although I am sure, at least I hope, that he will get a great reception from the Pompey fans.

Watched Boro on Football First and GON was outstanding the boro fans seem to have taken to him from the off. Good Luck to him I think Pompey badly **** on him and made a major error by letting him go. Chances are he'll get an England chance now!

GON getting anEngland call? i think thats a given, being as Mctosser's love child; Downing plays for them. And he has the directions in his Tomtom for smog city

We will miss GON but after the last two results midfield looks solid with Diop. One had to go to make way and HR is the manager.

i personally would be hard pushed to swop our midfield with anyone, it stands comparison to any.

Watch the bookings on both Sulley & Diop. Both will serving suspensions very soon. They seem to get booked nearly every game!

thats the one big downside to their games...could prove costly

Richard Hughes and Pedro Mendez are good cover. I would argue that Mendez is our best midfielder.

agreed, it was time for gary to go. and diop and muntary are by far more solid, so it would hvae been unfair to keep gary and not played him.

tbh, not wanting to keep banging on about this issue but i still dont think it was the right call to let him go... davis has played well recently, even tho he has come in for some stick, papa smurf has looked very good in his two games, kranjcar did a fine job yesterday and muntari - altho alittle disappointing to me at times - has also looked good, but i still do not think it was the right call letting o'neil go, the only reason he went was because he commanded such a high tranfer fee, which was meant to be offset on a new striker - which didnt happen... even so the midfield, even with suspensions to papa smurf and muntari looks good with people like hughesy that can come in - mendes should be back in soon also...

our midfield is solid, in depth -only wide right looks a little thin. Gary would have struggled to fit in with us, but then, he just didnt look right in red, did he?

Gary O'Neill is history and like so many decent players we have had has now moved on.Whether it was amicable, or the right decision is all hindsight. Harry is paid to make decisions and he decided he wanted Diop, and so far what a good decision. Gary is not England standard and unless there was some sort of massive injury crisis he will be behind Barry, Carrick,Hargreaves, Huddlestone and Reo-Coker to name but a few. Move on he plays for the Boro, get used to it.

how can anyone justify getting rid of Gary O and keeping headless chicken Davis, i just dont get it, does any one really think that if Gary O would burst into the Rh side of the penalty box he would pass it straight out or do we think he would shoot and probably score.

i missed it at the game but Rug advises me Davis made a good tackle back and that as far as i can see is it, lots of mis timed tackles and talkings to from refs with yellow cards to follow will be what we reap. With muntari and Diop we have enough people to collect the disciplinary points already. If Gary had gone and so had Davis then i could understand it, but to get rid of loyal class and keep tempremental mediocre just seems mad to me.

I agree that Sean Davsis is nothing special Russ, but both O'Neill and Davis both do not get goals, we have to hope that Diop and Muntari can get goals for us, but if Utaka is playing wide right then there is no room for Gary in the middle, as he is too lightweight and the Boro will find when Boetang and the rest are preffered.

Personally i like Davis, never going to be worldclass, but a decent player all the same. Does anyone else think that we havent seen the best from GON for a while? fantastic in the great escape season, but little more than ordinary and lightweight last season

he was lightweight last season but he played through the pain barrier - he could have had an operation long before he did but he carried on playing for the team... granted he might not have got back in if he had the operation? i would still have kept him any day of the week, but hey its history isnt it now...

i assure you russ, bentley went on a run and beat a few players before davis slid in and won the ball off him, not only won it but then came away with it... i like davis, i dont think he is great and certainly would have kept o'neil over him but i think if he starts scoring people will get off his back...

I'm not a lover of Davis' ability but nobody can deny he works hard and for the team - The miss was almost too embassarssing but the tackle Rug refers to was world class ... If Muntari had made it we'll all be raving about it ... Sean for the time being is doing ok ..
