13 out of 18 points will do nicely

13 out of 18 points will do nicely

Pompey should be looking to get 13 points from the next 18 available! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompeycarpet's poll are thoughts that I share.

Yep, we have had some very tough matches to start the season, but on the whole we have acquitted ourselves fairly well, even if we only have 6 points from a possible 18 to show for it - which is possibly at least 2, probably 4 fewer than we deserve on the whole.

But that is in the past, we are no looking to the future and 13 points from the next 18 available, which works out at 4 wins, 1 draw and a defeat. To be honest if we did not achieve this, looking at the fixtures that we have coming up I will be very disappointed and given that we will not be getting into Europe via the league this season, that much could almost be apparent after only 12 matches.

We have matches against teams that we should be beating, so if we can start with at least a point on Sunday at Blackburn that will be a great start and will set us up nicely for the matches ahead, particularly those at Fortress Fratton.

What the poll asked - How many points will Pompey get in there next 6 games?

How you voted - Win most of them - 13pts 52%, Do quite well - 8pts 37%, Win them all - 18pts 7%, Disaster - 0pts! 3%, Do badly - 3pts 1%

Current Poll - The league does not really start taking shape until around 10 matches have been played, you can then gage a better idea of roughly how things might shape up come May.

But, even at this early stage people probably have an idea of what they are expecting this season. Maybe these expectation levels have risen, or fallen but how well could we do, this is what muffdaddy1983 wants to know with this - 'where do you think Pompey will finish this season?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

Well let's hope so but we will have a fairly good idea of what we have at the end of these games. Still need to get a settled system, too many out of position, too many not playing to their full potential & too many have their Stevie Wonder boots on. Some need time to settle & hopefully this is it. The division is tougher than last year & last seasons great finish now counts for little. Time for positive action to back up the positive words.

when we play, we have prooved to play very well. Blackburn is at the standard of european teams, and so we should be looking to take at least a point. looking at our other fixtures, 4 wins would seem a must!

agreed storagematt, the time for playing people out of position just to accomodate them in the team has gone - 'arry now has to pick players in their best positions or leave them out rather than fitting them into the side in a lesser role, simple really isnt it... yep, i know you want your best players playing, but you also want them playing in the best and most affective roles dont you... also agree, positive words count for nothing if they arent backed up, actions speak louder than words! now is the time pompey, come on fellas lets do it.

next 6 games, the only game that i think we will struggle to win is the blackburn game! The two away games against wigan and fulham should not be too hard, and we should always be expecting to win at home. I wouldnt be surprised if we came away with 15 or 16 pts!!!

wian and fulham 'shouldnt' be that hard i agree, but i thought that last season and wigan rolled us over didnt they and the walking wounded ian pearce snatched a late equaliser for fulham didnt he... we need something to spark off out away form - if we can get a break tomorrow and win this should be it in which case i would not be surprised to see us win all 6 of out next 6 lge matches, as well as the league cup match on tuesday...

I think we can just turn up & roll these teams over. Our record against the Wigans & Fulhams are not as great as we like to think. If we are not up for it we will not win. For their lack of talent on paper is made up with a never say die attitude which can win games. We used to beat better teams than us using that tactic so expect teams to do it to us.

Chill out fellas ... It'll be a doddle, Kanu will end November as the prems top scorer, Harry will be manager of the month, James will be Englands no1, ad little yellow men from Satrn will land in Cuba and announce that they come in peace....

It's gonna be tough this year, that's why we need to start collecting points, by playing our best 11 for each individual game !!!

I agree, you can't just turn out your best players each week, you have to send out your best team. The best players for each position is usually the way we create a team and then you play them regularly and build up confidence and understanding..... I have never coached football how am I doing so far?....It takes talent but it ain't rocket science.

Solving that goalie quandary

I'm not sure our problem with finding a 'regular' no.1 last season was behind our failure to gain promotion from league two was it? Clearly it didn't help mind.

Pompey's attacking intent

Something Pompey (attacking intent) will look to show next season to get out of league two once and for all. Smith came in from Swindon last week but Cookie wants another striker.
