'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Kranjcar confident of 3 points

Niko Kranjcar believes that Pompey's away days blues will end this weekend at Blackburn, as he has told the Pompey Site that Pompey have belief that they can end the baron run away from Fortress Fratton.

Kranjcar is certainly confident that things will change: 'one of the most important things in football is to have belief in yourself and then put in the effort to reward that belief.

'We know our away form hasn't been great, but we believe that we can turn it around.

'We believe that we can win this weekend - now we just have to go out there and do it.

'We'll give Blackburn a good game and at the end of it hopefully we'll come away the better team and have the point to show for it'.

Boxing Day 2006 was the last time Pompey won away, pushing on for 9 months again now - which is a shockingly long time!

I have made it perfectly clear that I fear for our chances in this match with Blackburn - if you have not already made your predictions in the Pompey predictions league on this match do it here - so I would settle for a point, but if the players can all share Kranjcar's belief, which they should really as we are awesome at home, then why not - lets do it.

I am pretty sure that Harry Redknapp will go for a 5 man midfield, which although I would rather see an orthodox 4-4-2, if he played a 4-5-1 - which I hate - so long as Kranjcar or Pedro Mendes came back in I would be okay-ish.

Also, if he went for the 4-5-1 I would love Benjani or David Nugent to be used as the lone striker - unlikely I know, as we all know it will be Kanu as usual! - and Kranjcar - probably just getting in ahead of Mendes for this game - in the middle of midfield in a free role, an almost supporting role in place of Sean Davis, with Papa Bouba Diop and Sulley Muntari either side and Matty Taylor on the left, John Utaka on the right I would be happy.

The above is almost certainly not going to happen as it will be the usual suspects, but we need some creativity in midfield and some movement up front and Kanu will not offer this, I would much prefer he started on the bench, coming on to turn the match if needed. A super sub was the role I expected him to play this season but Redknapp just will not leave him out.

good positive talk that needs good positive action, defence wiill need to be on form to stop McCarthy and co but given our previous dreadfull [performances at Ewood 3 points from this game would be a real fillip for the team and provide that bounce that seems to have been missing
russellm
Agree with Russ, last season it was embarrassing up there. Talk is cheap if not backed up with real action.
storagematt
I wouldn't place too much emphasis on last year's match - We've been a different team so far this season - McCarthy and MGP have been poor so far, and unless there is a dramatic upturn in form, expect the danger to come from elsewhere. We've looked good in the league, but last nights pathetic attempt shows how poor we actually can be. RSC, Bentley and Dunn are the ones to watch for the moment, but in all honesty the match could go either way depending on which team turns up.
Head Rover Heels
yep, it is about bloody time we got our act together and started doing what we do at fortress fratton away from it too! with the performance blackburn put in last night i am sure mark hughes will be looking for a response, but with ryan nelsen out i am more upbeat that i was...
pompeyrug
i may even change my prediction in the prediction lge to a pompey win and put my money on that too... ive wasted enough with my losing bets so far this season, what difference will one more do :)
pompeyrug
Yes I was surprised that Rovers lost last night after a 15 game unbeaten run. How will they respond on Sunday is the question? I am certain that Mark Hughes will not stand for a repeat. But as Krunchie says we have to turn the away form round soon.
eastneydave
I'm sure you'll turn it around. I just hope (for our sake) that last night was a blip and not a downturn completely. I would imagine we'll have a lot of hard-of-hearing players after the ear bashing they had, and hopefully they'll be playing to keep the shirt this weekend. You lot are in a false position at the moment - Your initial fixtures were just absolutely laughable, anyone would think the fixture list was written by a saint (not the good kind) We're not the best side to have to face to get a run going, but i don't think it'll be long before you're up in the top half again.
Head Rover Heels
We know all about the bad kind of saints!!

sadly, i think that we are mentally a very week side (as i have sead somewhere else...). We can put in a good performance one week, and the next, thinking we are invincible (which we are...on form...), and then put in an awful performance the following week. At home, when the crowd is behind the team, we are confident on the ball, away from hme, we cant string 2 passes together. Sadly, Blackburn will not be a confidence boasting game. They finished below us last season (which implies they could be easy...wrong, but its what it looks like), and we have just played well against the top 4. Not only that, But Blackburns...slightly aggresive nature...works well against the sides that play better football (e.g. us), and so we are doubly in a bad situation. If i wasnt so optimistic, i would be predicting a 3-0 loss for us...as it is, im only saying 2-1...
pompeycarpet
oh, and get a new picture of krunchie - hes had a haircut ;-)
pompeycarpet
Blackburn are really gonna be after us on Sunday, no doubt Hughes gave 'em a roasting after losing to Larissa or whatever her name was....2 up front please 'Arry and free reign to take the game to them.
Tantona
I can see it now lads 4-5-1 and hit them on the break, especially now Benjy is out. Harry just has this ideaabout soaking it up and then snatching something at the end.
Owenspompey
bollox, benji's out! simply then isnt it 'arry will have no problems putting kanu up top alone then will he - give nuge a go, he is more mobile and would probalby cause blackburn more problems with his pace... if we must play the 4-5-1 'arry at least put mendes and/or kranjcar in, giving krunchie a free role!
pompeyrug
"Kranjcar confident of 3 points" - well, im glad he is confident, because i'm not...
pompeycarpet
i really wasnt, i wasnt at all! however my mind is changing, quite possibly with the usual heart ruling head thing but i was expecting defeat, this changed to 'i will settle for a point' but now im starting to think we will win... that ryan nelsen fella is quite inspirational to blackburn, so without him they could find it tough. if samba doesnt make it too then we could be quids in. we need pace up front as apart from their left back warnock they do not really have that much pace at the back, so utaka should have a field day, that is why i would go with nuge up top as his pace and movement will cause problems, but you know it will be kanu...
pompeyrug
We must score at least 1 to get a point & maybe at least 2 to win.
storagematt
It really makes me laugh that as soon as a player talks on the offical site about a game we must win, or a game that'll be hard or a game we must focus on or whatever they don't feature in it or at best sit on the bench... have a look back so far this season ..its true !
Chix
it is true mate, matty taylor has been doing this all season, then the next game he's been out the team... can krnuchie buck the trend? i would hope so as he or mendes are players that i hope come in to give that creative influence in midfield, krnuchie for me tho in a free role behind the lone striker - no doubt kanu...
pompeyrug
This will kill it, i'm going for a draw...
pentonpompey
Nice sentiments Niko, now lets see if you lot can produce a performance to back up all these words from the players and the manager. I am prepared to give you every chance, but i always feel that away from Fratton we just dont have the balls to go for it, i just hope that i am proved wrong this time PLEASE PLEASE !!
Owenspompey
Lets be honest guys our away form is S*ite, so put out a team that looks capable of winning and to hell with it, the worst that can happen is another defeat but maybe just maybe!!.... Agree with the rest of you Kanu upfront on his own....again....Oh joy! Another 90 minutes of trying to snatch something.
L L Blue
i agree with pompeycarpet and owenspompey as a team pompey are mentally not very strong. I hope HR has an aberation and names a positive squad and doesnt do the one up front, i am just about to offski to the airport so i hope to hear the captain advise no turbulence and fine weather and plenty of 442's in the mancs area followed by confirmation that nugent will play
russellm
Kranjcar is more confident than most of us. maybe we can give him 3 points. 1. Score a goal 2. play a full game and 3. make a name for yourself (or at least one I can spell).
pompeygray
my god, he wright - we won!
pompeycarpet
woo hoo - he played - and played well - and we won, get in there you beauty...
pompeyrug
Easy this prediction game. And the lottery numbers Niko are...
storagematt
...he told me... and they were wrong - he got one prediction right tho, so i can live with missing out on millions of pounds as pompey won :)
pompeyrug
You don't really mean that ..do you? Perhaps we should get Krunchie in the Prediction League.
