Is Crouchy the answer for Pompey?

Is Crouchy the answer for Pompey?

There was a lot of talk around the close of the transfer window that Pompey were preparing a move, or had even made a move to bring Peter Crouch back to Fratton.

Either way, nothing came of it but a lot of talk recently coming out of the media is suggesting that Harry Redknapp will be seriously stepping up his efforts to sign the man, he has twice sold - on the blue and red halves of Hampshire - in January.

Like all top clubs Liverpool have 4 or 5 top class strikers, which as a result means that not all of them can play.

Crouch's start against Pompey when Liverpool came to town at the weekend was his first of the season, but he has been assured by Rafa Benitez that he has a future with the club, but with regular football needed to cement an England place he might want more than the rotation part he is playing with the scousers.

To be honest when he was with us before I really liked the fella and even back then I thought he would be a really good footballer, as has been proved. His touch for a big man was and still is fantastic but even now, as then, his ability in the air is so disappointing for a man of his size.

I would be lying if I said that I would not want him back, but is he really the striker that we are looking for?

Could he play with the others we have here, I would probably think he could, but if he played alongside Kanu their pace, and power for that matter would not trouble too many defences would it.

What is the feeling fellas - is this pure media speculation with no basis at all, or could Pompey seriously be after him again, if so could he come back and would you want him back?

Nope, from an England point of view I would like to see him move but not to Pompey. I'd like to see us go for Leroy Lita of Reading

I like him, was a bit disappointed with the hostile reception he got on Saturday, but at least he too it well. Another England international too.....albeit he's fallen out of favour slightly.

I would have him back but only at a sensible price. Liverpool are going to ask stupid money if selling to a Prem team and I think for the money we would have to pay there would be a better option. Yeah, maybe Lita or Defoe. We have Kanu and can't see Crouch offering much more.... Younger granted!!

No he is not the answer, we have a tall languid striker capable of the unexpected, what we need is a fast hard working striker with the ability to score 20 plus a season, he is a squad player at best.

A win at Wimbledon made sure of a play-offs place. Technically we can finish in the top 3 but this would require an unlikely set of results from too many clubs wouldn't it?
