Is Crouchy the answer for Pompey?

There was a lot of talk around the close of the transfer window that Pompey were preparing a move, or had even made a move to bring Peter Crouch back to Fratton.

Either way, nothing came of it but a lot of talk recently coming out of the media is suggesting that Harry Redknapp will be seriously stepping up his efforts to sign the man, he has twice sold - on the blue and red halves of Hampshire - in January.

Like all top clubs Liverpool have 4 or 5 top class strikers, which as a result means that not all of them can play.

Crouch's start against Pompey when Liverpool came to town at the weekend was his first of the season, but he has been assured by Rafa Benitez that he has a future with the club, but with regular football needed to cement an England place he might want more than the rotation part he is playing with the scousers.

To be honest when he was with us before I really liked the fella and even back then I thought he would be a really good footballer, as has been proved. His touch for a big man was and still is fantastic but even now, as then, his ability in the air is so disappointing for a man of his size.

I would be lying if I said that I would not want him back, but is he really the striker that we are looking for?

Could he play with the others we have here, I would probably think he could, but if he played alongside Kanu their pace, and power for that matter would not trouble too many defences would it.

What is the feeling fellas - is this pure media speculation with no basis at all, or could Pompey seriously be after him again, if so could he come back and would you want him back?

no thanks...didnt he score a goal against jamaca?...he missed a penalty too in that game - sorry, i would rather we had no-one than him - at least we would have funds still available, at what liverpool would want for him!

Nope, from an England point of view I would like to see him move but not to Pompey. I'd like to see us go for Leroy Lita of Reading

I like him, was a bit disappointed with the hostile reception he got on Saturday, but at least he too it well. Another England international too.....albeit he's fallen out of favour slightly.

I would have him back but only at a sensible price. Liverpool are going to ask stupid money if selling to a Prem team and I think for the money we would have to pay there would be a better option. Yeah, maybe Lita or Defoe. We have Kanu and can't see Crouch offering much more.... Younger granted!!

No he is not the answer, we have a tall languid striker capable of the unexpected, what we need is a fast hard working striker with the ability to score 20 plus a season, he is a squad player at best.

I think Anelka would be a better bet.

Dear Lord, as I lay my weary head upon my pillow this evening i ask for only two things. Firstly, as always, please keep my wife and family free from harm and look down upon them with favour & grace as you have done so for all their lives so far. Secondly. Lord, I wish for a time when I can relax in the knowledge that Peter Crouch has signed a 5 year contract with a football team other than my beloved Pompey. Whichever team you choose that to be o'Lord i shall not complain, but I pray Lord that you will act speedily in this matter as the anguish I suffer at the slightest thought of him joining Pompey fills me with dread. My faith O'Lord is in your hands. Amen. P.S. Please can Pompey qualify for Europe this year too ?

I always thought he was alright but I would have it in his contract that he MUST do the funky robot when he scores.

Yep. As insane as it sounds, would very much rather have him aboard than Defoe. At least he appears to have a good attitude. Oh well, yes he did play for the appalling people down the street, but who among us hasn't done something stupid in their youth ? (or middle age for that matter eh Harry ?)

i just want a goalscorer, as i told my bro at the weekend during and after the game the need for that became even more apparent... as said i would have crouchy back, but liverpool will ask stupid money wont they and you cannot really see crouchy and kanu playing together can you - good god it wouldnt be pretty! ive been all for defoe for a while as you fellas know but lita is a man i would welcome with open arms - come on 'arry he is not a gamble and wouldnt cost anywhere near what the others would...

I think we have a hard working goal scorer already who just needs to be given more that just a camio role and the odd reserve game. The Nugget should have been brought on in place of Kanu with about 30 mins remaining on Saturday. He works like Benji but can given the right support can bag a few as well. Give him a chance please arry

Good point blarmy, the nugget should be given a go like Benjy was given a go, the longer he is left out the worse he will feel, and the pressure will build.

kanu is 'arry's golden boy tho isnt he - i have said in the forum that i think that kanu would be best used as a 'supersub' more oftn than not. yep, he has been great this season, but i think he could be even better from the bench its time to unleash nuge, fresh from his reserve strike!

As a target man cum striker he makes a bloody good disco dancer, he is a squad player at best, leave him alone Harry, when we buy get some quality in, not a player we sold on.

All I know is, I've seen him score some amazing goals from all over the pitch as I'm sure we all have. He's a different kind of player than Kanu. Just because he's also an awkward lanky looking git doesn't mean he doesn't have what it takes (and I say that for all of us awkward lanky looking gits everywhere). Anyone who's able to put the ball in the net will do and Crouch has proven he's among that group.

I agree Rug, i suppose i always thought he would be supersub, what i have really noticed so far this season is kanu really has looked behind the pace, if he needs to move more than 15yards he cant do it, i accept that there is a place for the holding striker to lay players on but that would seem to require a striker to run onto a pass and that implies Nugent who HR wont play. I quite like the idea of Lita but i hope HR will play Nugent in the CC and start Pl games.

kanu and nuge have not been tried together yet have they? it is worth giving it a go isnt it - nuge is due a go so come on 'arry give him a start in the league cup, if he plays well and scores dont just revert back to your favourites, give the fella a chance if he deserves it...

i think blarmy has a great point, i too was surprised Nugent didnt come on, it was clear Kanu had no speed left in him, the game was stretyched and Harry does nothing. as i said elsewhere i still think Harry is having a below par time at the moment

Pompeys striking solutions lies neither with Crouch or Kanu - Different players ?.. Yeah I'd agree with that - Crowd pleasers ? Kanu is a lazy good for nothing... who 'arry was (or so he stated) willing to forget about if he didn't sign 'that' contract (funny how he loves him so much now). Crouch, not good enough and has previously stated that he preferred Scum to Pompey ... We've spent the money on Nugget - Give the lad a chance...he aint gonna score sitting on the bench but even if he came on as a sub, he cover more ground in 5 minutes than Kanu would between the hour mark and final whistle of any game.

that kind of thing that you explained about 'arry and his feelings towards kanu is exactly the kind of thing that winds me up so much about 'arry... i like kanu, have defended him when he was being got at last season at the end of the day the lazy sod didnt sign a contract until he was ready, did no work in pre season yet the likes of nuge ran their hearts out on these shores and overseas against some good and bad sides yet kanu walked straight back into the team and has stayed there no matter what - i would be mighty *****ed off if i were a player like nuge with him having done that...

...and i think you'd be entitled to be Rug... What must Nugent be thinking... Sure we don't get to seee what Harry see's on the training ground day in day out, but for me it's how they perform during a match that counts . and whenever nugent is given a chance he runs his heart out ... unlike some - If he had played and cocked up I could accept it but the lad has not really been given a chance .. I'd be gutted if I was nugent and Kanu was keepng me out of the team... He's as static as a snail on mogadon - Any slower and he'd take root.

i love 'arry but he can be a right ******** at times cant he... the more the blackburn game gets closer the more i feel that nuge really needs to play as his pace and movement will cause problems as they dont have that quick a defence so they will love facing kanu as slippery a customer as he can be as he can barely walk, let alone run...
