Primus targets cup tie for comeback

Primus targets cup tie for comeback

Linvoy Primus has spoken to pfcTV again, with him targeting the league cup tie with Burnley next week as the match for his long awaited return from his knee injury, although he could be in the squad that goes to Blackburn this weekend.

He takes part in the reserve fixture with West Ham tonight, a match in which he is hoping to play the majority if not all of the match: 'The aim is to play 90 minutes at Upton Park.

'If I can successfully get through that then I have a good chance of being in the first team squad for the following games.

'It would have been nice if the reserves had played last week because I might have had a chance then of being in the squad for Liverpool'.

He acknowledges that he faces a challenge to dislodge current central defensive pairing Sylvain Distin and Sol Campbell to get back in, with both being in such fantastic form this season with Harry Redknapp full of praise for this pairing at the weekend. Campbell's injury worries are probably the most likely route of seeing him get back in at this time though.

Primus always faces a challenge to get back in the side, but always rises to it, but this season is going to be such a battle and I worry that Redknapp will not give him the chance to play, but as said if Distin and Campbell stay fit and keep playing like they are then they cannot be left out as both are international quality, with it very possible that Distin could earn himself a call up for France is he keeps playing like he is.

My thinking was that I wanted Primus back in for Hermann Hreidarsson, with Distin then shifting to left back, but even Hreidarsson appeared to up his game last weekend, so although I have not been convinced by him he has earned a stay of execution, although he is one of Redknapp's favourites anyway isn't he.

It is going to be a battle for Primus this season but he has been written off before and we all know what has happened time and time again.

Ease him in, no real panic to get Linvoy in whilst Sol & Distin are playing so well. Should have a fantastic bench soon.

i really hope that optimus can come back okay - agreed, ease him in gently, the league cup match should be an ideal time to help him back in... when he is up to speed hopefully he gets enough to show what he can do, altho with distin and sol in the form they are he wont get back in easily will he...

Agree rug but Distin and Sol is not form it is class because as they say form is temporary, class is permanent. Distin can always play Left Back or we play 3-5-2?

yep, that is right dave... i was all for distin playing left back, so depending on how hermann goes i would still like that in a 4-4-2. the thought of using matty taylor and glen johnson in a 3-5-2 really appeals to me, but the players, sol in particular dont think we could pull it off do they...

the problem with 3-5-2, which i really would like to see - maybe in the cup match too - is that sol, linvoy and sylvain are hardly young, and aint that quick - a speedy forward could get in behinf them. That saud, matty or glen should be able to cover back...

i agree 3,5,2 wont work, Sol is the organiser and i understand TA feels they are generally not quick enough. HR was dampning down linvoy hopes by talking up the Sol Distin partnership today (i think Distin gets caught out of position way too often) Harry stated he loves to see him (Distin) going forward, so unless the Herminator gets inured i cant see Linvoy playing much. off topic, i hope Benji and Nugent play against Preston

It'll be great to see big Linvoy back, as long as he's not rushed in too quickly as had been said. Faces his perennial struggle of trying to fight his way into the first team, but it's never phased him before.

Linvoy back is great news!! What a fantastic player to have as cover, last season if Sol or Linvoy was out you just knew we would struggle. Might we consider squad rotation!

Great to have him back, dont forget he can play all away along the back four and we need a fit Linvoy. Every time we write him off or say he will struggle to get in the team the man ends up in the team and one of the most consistent performers that we have.
