Linvoy Primus believes that his former Pompey teammate Gary O'Neil can earn himself an England call up after leaving for Boro.
Primus has told The News how he feels the change of scenery could make all the difference for O'Neil, with the change possibly bringing him back to the attention of Spineless Steve: 'The England set-up want to see what Gary can do and I think that's what's going to happen at Middlesbrough.
'I don't think he'd gone stale at Pompey, I just think that he knew what he could do, what he was capable of doing and sometimes you want a fresh challenge to see if you can go on any more.
'He's going to an environment where he knows who the players are but you know they want to see what you can do. I think he can get into the England team playing in a different scene, I really do.
'Imagine they finish in the top half of the table, seventh or eighth, if he's a big part of it it's obviously going to get him the attention'.
We were all sad to see O'Neil leave, but I think we are coming to terms with this now. We would also probably mostly agree that for the best of his career the move away was the best thing for him and it should rejuvenate his career.
Spineless Steve has previously mentioned him in a band of 50 players that he was watching, so regular football at the home of one of his favourites Stewart Downing should enhance his chances, so I would not bet against him still playing for England in the future - as I have always believed that he would.
O'Neil's departure after 10 years with the club now leaves Primus as the senior Pompey pro, with him now taking the mantle as the clubs longest serving player.
