Taylor targets positive result

With the international break in full swing things have been pretty quiet with Pompey, but during this time Matty Taylor seems to have become a Pompey spokesman with him speaking to Pompey Site regularly.

As well as Arsenal did play Pompey's last performance against them was very disappointing, so Taylor is demanding that we get back to our best and get a positive result against Liverpool on Saturday 'we've got Liverpool at home next and we need to make sure we get a positive result.

'It will be tough though. Liverpool have got a fantastic side and a lot of people are tipping them to be champions this year.

'It was a disappointing performance against Arsenal but the other performances so far this season have been pretty good'.

Yep, Liverpool will be a tough match and unlike last season when we beat them 2-1 they will not be fielding an under strength side. But weakened side or not I still feel that if we get back to our positive best we can beat Liverpool, as we can any other side at Fratton.

We have made Fratton a fortress in recent times, so we have to make sure that we keep it that way.

On the subject of the Liverpool match, if you have not already made your predictions in the Pompey predictions league on this match do it here.

Taylor also spoke about his own potential future involvement with England. His attitude and response were first class in my thinking, as he said he was more interested in how Pompey are doing and is only interested in playing well for Pompey at this point in time.

Should he find his consistency level of last season he will get his England chance by the end of the season I feel certain of this.

Roll on Saturday - as much as I enjoyed the England game at the weekend and will clearly want more of the same against Russia on Wednesday I just want to get things going with Pompey again now though.

A positive performance, all out have a go at them from the start.

Why not? We have proved more than a match on our own patch, only Arsenal and Chelsea come expecting to win, all the others struggle

As long as Matty does not insist on bloody shooting from all angles and all distances we should be fine. He seems to have got it into his head that all goals have to be smashed in, unlike Arsenal who pass the ball into the net, just keep your head Matty.

sorry ownes pompey, he is actually GOOD at smashing them in, and watching them go in is just what makes being a football fan so good isnt it? arsnal pass the ball into the net, but everyso often, you just need to have a good old nglish smash - and theres none better than matty at that. We Can beat liverpool, but they are looking impresive, so i wont get my hopes up - that said, i cant wait to watch nugent net his first goal ;-)

there is a right and wrong to to have a crack tho isnt there and some of matty efforts against arsenal were just ridiculous... we can beat liverpool, so long as we are positive in our approach we have enough to get at them, we just have to keep it tight at the back and dont give away sloppy goals...

Carpet i agree when Matty gets it right it is fantastic, but against Arsenal in particular it was embarrasing, and he should remember to put the ball in the box sometimes. If i was Kanu or Benjy etc. i would get a bit cheesed off if my left wing back just kept knocking it past the post or in row z.

I agree he has got to mix it up, knowing when to do it is what make a great footballer though! We need a performance on Saturday.

sorry, i didnt really see many of his "shots" - as they went shown on MoTD - and i agree he has to mix it up a bit - but its still nice to have some long range shooting in a game...

Right you are and when you chuck Pedro in the mix we have two players who can really give it a bang. Remember Bobby Doyle eastneydave, he used to give it a crack, mind you the ball generally ended up in the freight yard at Fratton Station.

Taylor is right to suggest that Pompey need to up the ante, but he should be looking in the mirror first.

in fairness to matty taylor he has also said that his own performance needs to improve - but it can be hard to get going if you are in and out of the side, or switching from left midfield to left back during matches as he has...

Matty knows he has not produced last years form yet, he is an honest pro who can never be accussed of not trying, i suppose this stop start to the season does not help, but i have a feeling unlike last year we will have a better middle and end to the season as oppossed to the sensational start that we had last year. Matty should be at left back and only push on when we are chasing the game, he and Traore are our left backs, with young Crainie as cover, Herman is a better central defender.

agreed hermann is not doing the job at left back and has looked better when used in the middle. traore would be the left back if it was down to me but in the long term tbh i think it could be cranie - he has shown he can play at this level and can play at left back even tho he is a right sided player...

Crainie is a good young prospect who could fill both the full back berths, however we do not need to rush him. He appears to gain in confidence each time that he gets a game, so only time will tell which turns out to be his best position, whatever it is we can see that Harry has nicked a good one from the scum. Mick Kennedy he had a hard shot, bloody wayward but hard, mind you he could take a good long throw and did not mind kicking anyone.

He was called the 'hardest man in soccer' at one point and he loved every minute of it. Great captain though, he led by example.

Talking of the old days anyone remember Kevin Dillon? In my mind one of the best penalty takers we had!

Kevin Dillon good player in a decent team, he was good from the spot wasnt he. I think for some reason Kennedy was called 'skully' or maybe i am getting old. He runs a soccer school in Ireland now imagine the hospital bill for that !! Many years ago i met a lad called Vernon Allatt who played for Halifax and with Kennedy at Huddersfield and he said that he was just as bad in training, so the aim was to be in his five a side team.

i've just had another look at the headline, and really, it is quite a stupid thing..."taylor targets positive result"...well, he is hardly going to target a negative result is he?...sorry, i just wanted to be pedantic...anyway, i dont rate herman at all, i like what cranine looks like...but not against liverpool (dimji is our best option at the moment), and i have no iodea who kevin dillon was...please dont call me sad...

Kevin Dillion - LLBlue you are spot on excellent penalty taker. He's now Steve Coppells Joe Jordon at Reading I think, if you can follow that. He came to Pompey from Birmingham early eighties ??

A funny memory that involves Kevin Dillion... I used to live in Byerley Road about a two minute hop over the bridge to the back of the south stand... One saturday I promised the girl I was living with that I wouldn't go to football but I would go shopping instead - This was a big sacrifice as I went home and away all the time then. Anyway at about ten to two i popped down Ken's the corner shop (just before the bridge) to get a pint of milk for a cup of coffee she was making - I got my milk but upon looking around at people in hats and scarves and Pompey colours on I started to question my decision not to go the the game. So I went... carton of milk in hand - from memory it was a cup game I think in Jan or Feb ....anyway we were losing but then Dillon scored from the spot to level the scores, as usual i jumped so high I dropped my milk in the celebration and the carton burst when some bloke trod on it - I think we ended up winning the game though so that was ok... On the way home after the game; I stopped off at Kens to get some more milk.... but he had sold out ! So I returned home three and a half hours later empty handed but having seen a great game. The explanation and description of Dillons goal wasn't very well received for some reason... The girl in question & I split up two weeks later.. no idea why !

Eatney dave, do you remember when we missed all those penalties in a row, until Steve Aizelwood scored, we missed loads, Doyle, Ross, Rafferty all had a go, in fact i remember in one game the fans were joking that if we got a penalty could we ask the ref for a short corner instead.
