Sol signs new contract with Pompey

Pompey have been dealt the brilliant news that captain Sol Campbell has signed new and improved contract with Pompey.

A thrilled Campbell told the Pompey Site, 'I'm delighted to have signed a new contract.

'It's dragged on a bit but everything's been resolved. There's always a bit of transfer speculation around the transfer window but thankfully it's over now and I can concentrate on playing football.

'The clubs moving forward with a talented squad and plans for the new training ground. The club is certainly going in the right direction'.

Campbell's new contract will see him stay with Pompey until the end of the 2008/09 season at least.

So far this season has been a bit stop start for the England international, with two England recalls aborted due to injury setbacks, but it is hoped that the Pompey captain will be fit to return for the match with Liverpool on Saturday week.

This is tremendous news for Pompey and is a near perfect end to what has been a pretty good day for me personally, to say I am delighted is an understatement!

just got back in to the country to be this fine saturday morning to greated by this news. Whilst we all have worries lots of things are right with he pompey world today.

the fact that sol wants to stay speaks volume about where pompey are going. sol can be a tough man to please, but if he is happy to commit things are going well.
pompeyrug
sol is staying because he knows we are going in the right direction and it would be a fine way to cap his career. He is the calming influence along with Jammo we need at the back, especially when it gets tough and we are under pressure. He now reminds me of Desailly and how he was at the peak of his career 'The Rock'
Owenspompey
Fabulous news. He has more Soul than many of his predessors. A tue and dedicated professional.
