Defoe was the one for Pompey

Defoe was the one for Pompey

Jermain Defoe was the striker that I would have most wanted at Pompey last week! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from Chix's poll are thoughts that I could, with many probably thinking I would have shared, but did not entirely to be honest

I had been one of the 'Defoe to Pompey' believers, as well as had wanted all summer long, but it has not come off, well not during the transfer window just shut anyway, but it still might early in 2008?

My vote actually went to Leroy Lita; as to be honest I felt that he could have been a more realistic target that could have signed had we moved for him, so I tried to base my vote from a more realistic angle.

Clearly I would not have been against almost any of the names mentioned, or others, but just felt that Lita could have been a more plausible option, but as it was we got no striker at all, we will have to wait until January for this but this gives the current strikers a chance to shine, which I do not see as a bad thing to be honest.

What the poll asked - We didn't get him, but which of the strikers rumoured or linked is/was the one most wanted?

How you voted - Defoe 45%, Anelka 22%, Lita 12%, Crouch 9%, Other 4%, Del Piero 3%, Kanoute 2%, Adriano 2%, Bianchi %

Current Poll - Vital Pompey has enjoyed a rapid rise in recent months, establishing itself as one of the top places for many Pompey fans to hang out in cyberworld.

The hard work from myself and the other Vital Pompey site journalists - past and present - have put in, not to mention the support from you, the sites fellowship, has helped get Vital Pompey to where it is - but there is more to come.

But how exactly did you hear about 'the no.1 Pompey fans site' - not my words, the words of pompey4me's who wants to know the answer to this - 'where did you hear about Vital Pompey, the no.1 Pompey fans site?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

Any of the top choices would have been good, however none of them arrived and we have to hope that our current strikers can score the goals we all desire. Come January i would think Harry will have a dabble and if we need a striker he will get us one or two. Defoe would be great, but Spurs may well need him themselves with the way things are going down the Lane.

im sure that the fellas here can do a job, so altho getting a striker would have been preferrable in a way im glad that those here will be given a good few months to show what they can - or cant - do. come january 'arry will have to make a move, loan or otherwise, as we could be caught short with so many going off to the african nations, we also do not know what shape they will be in when they return... if defoe does not sign a contract between now and january then i think spurs will let him go, as they will not want to risk him 'doing a sol' as they have said. but this is a long way off yet - im just looking forward to getting back to business a week saturday.

Defoe is happy being paid a kings ransom to sit on the bench. Until his attitude to that changes, he ain't going anywhere, otherwise he would have gone by now.

my vote went to lita - he can score goals, and has a ready made partnership with nugent. that, and he is a realistic target, that probably wouldnt have had the same attitude problems as anelka and defoe.

like i said, as much as i have wanted defoe here my vote also went to lita, the fella is a class act and prob does not have half the ego to go with it that defoe does...

Northampton (h) - Securing home advantage?

Some could view this as a 'dead rubber!' It isn't as Champions Northampton will want to end on a high and Pompey will want 'an advantage' against Plymouth in the play-offs. Right?

Pompey MotM at Hartlepool

Pompey went into the penultimate game with a slim chance of a top 3 finish. A 2-0 win at Hartlepool saw the Blues do what we needed but wins for others ended those chances.

Jeepers keepers! Freebie options explored

An emergency loan arrival of a goalie has been ruled out by the Football League but this doesn't mean a free agent cannot be signed by Pompey should a suitable option be found?
