What a legend Linvoy is

Most players cannot wait to get back into the team at any cost, not Linvoy Primus he is happy to wait his turn, as he aims to get back in the side on merit - this just proves what a great fella Primus is.

As he told the Pompey Site he wants to get back into the team because he deserves too, he does not want individual errors to see him back in at the expense of someone else. Even if it means him staying out of the side, he would rather the team performed well as a unit.

Once the opportunity arises for Primus I have no doubt that he will, as he always does, grab it with both hands and will then be very difficult to leave out again.

He is inching ever closer to being available for a return, as he came through a further 80 minutes against Arsenal on Monday, playing at Underhill, the home of Barnet - where his professional career really took off.

To be honest at this precise moment in time he cannot get back into the starting 11 for me soon enough, if it means someone else missing out then so be it.

My own thinking would be, although it means playing one of Primus or Sylvain Distin slightly out of position I would want to see these two and Sol Campbell all in the back four, probably with Distin at left back in place of Hermann Hreidarsson, who is not convincing me to be honest.

I love Linvoy, he's a proper nice bloke and all round good guy, and lets be honest our defence looks a whole lot surer with him in it
paultsmouth
just a note to say that rug is stuck in an abyss right now, vitaladmin is trying to free him up, but i will post his articles for now!
paultsmouth
you don't love linvoy - in a man love way :) - as much as i do... and yep fellas im back, you lost me for 24-28 hours but ive returned from the abyss, thank **** for that...
pompeyrug
:o)))))
The Fear
thanks to the fear and everyone else behind the pictures at vital football for their help, they're stars fellas!
pompeyrug
The fella's a veritable Pompey legend! Written off many times only to prove his worth to everybody time and again. Seems to play better very year, and was absolutely superb alongside Campbell last season.
Tantona
welcome back mate ;-) we were lost without you...haha...
pompeycarpet
back on topic, and no disregard to the men harry brought into left back, i would still rather see ou 3 central defenders playing than have one of dimji or herman at left back.
pompeycarpet
im back, but now im off out - but i promised i will be back again later {not24-48 hrs later either} and will change the poll, as you must be sick of it by now :) on topic again, hermann isnt doing it for me, i would prefer djimi though, but out of the lot i would prefer to see optimus alongside sol and distin at left back.
pompeyrug
Welcome back! Glad you fixed problem. Linvoy for England - anyone read the book?
eastneydave
We all thought Harry had bought in distin to beef up that position and given SD's performances he may prefer to play him instead. personally i would go with a GJ, SC,LP,SD defence but if harry perserveres with herman ( whome i do not think is up to pompey standard) then Linvoy may not get a game until injury gives him a chance
russellm
I think Linvoy may opt for more than another reserve match, he has missed a full pre-season after all
paultsmouth
True, we need Linvoy to be 100% when he comes back, and his return will booost the team and the supporters. He will be in the England squad with Sol before we know it. He will be great with Glen, Sol and Sylvain and will form a really solid back four , and how we need it!
Owenspompey
A top bloke on & off the pitch. A rare breed.
storagematt
scrap the england defence, lets just go for an all pompey back 5 - jamo, GJ, SC, Primus, Matty taylor - that will solve all of englands problems!!!
pompeycarpet
tbh im not much of a reader - i dont find the time for it - but i plan to buy and read linvoy's book as the fella is a true inspiration to anyone, so i would love to read more about his life and background... watch out terry and rio linvoy's coming to get you, well your england shirt anyway!
pompeyrug
An absolute delight of a man, an example to all footballers. Will be interesting to read the book, will give it a go, although don tthink he can persuade me that there is a god.......each to their own!!!
pompey4me
Rug & russellm your back four GL, SC, LP, SD, has to be our best bet... 'Arry are you on line tonight... although i do agree with paultsmouth that another reserve game (or two) will benefit him more i the short term.. but after 'that bring it on'...
Chix
I got to say on defensive duties that I've seen against the Arse, GJ doesn't cut it for me, he has ben caught out of position several times as he tries to play the wing back role and too often gives the ball away. I know its early days but I would like to see him dropped when Linvoy's fit and sen LP line up along side Sol, Distan and Matty
blarmy
When Pompey signed Linvoy from a lower division club (Reading as they were then) on a free transfer i have to confess i couldn't see what he would add to the team. Early on he did little to change that opinion. As time went by he was deemed surplus to requirements (correctly in my opinion at that time) Luckily for all of us injuries forced him to be given a chance and he seized with both hands, for me since that day i've felt if he's fit he should be on the team sheet. He's an inspiration to up and coming footballers everywhere. Who honestly thought when he first came to Pompey that he would make a premiership defender, let alone one of such class? Well done Linvoy can't wait till you are back in the team, where you belong, you are now our longest serving player and here's hoping you'll be around for sometime yet.
Steve C
Can't help thinking herminator is also out of position himself, but why can't Matty play left back and Kranjcar on left side of midfield.
Steve C
matty at left back would play like GJ - more attacking, and leave us more open at the back...actually, scap that, we already are as open as can be at left back...do you think we could change our formation to 3-5-2? GJ would fit in well, with him and matty as wingbacks, and then we could play a much stronger midfield. harry talked about it earlier in pre season, but with the arrival of glen johnson, this must seem a more realistic option.
pompeycarpet
i was never that keen on tony pullis tbh, but he bought optimus didnt he, so we owe him a massive gratitude for that dont we - altho the stories also go that it was actually milan that decided he wanted optimus signed up didnt he...
pompeyrug
It was rumoured that Milan wanted him, maybe Milan should have managed the team and let Pulis drive the team coach for all the good he was, i did not like the bloke at all.
Owenspompey
What Linvoy has done best, in this age of overpaid pre-madonna footballers, is keep his feet on the ground. He constantly gives what he can back into the community, and we are lucky to have him!!!
pompey4me
I went to Fratton 3 years ago on a diversity day organised by my workplace, and Linvoy, Darren Moore and the Yak were there and all three were complete gentlemen and took the time to speak to us all. Optimus and Bruno were huge, but you soon realise what nice guys they are and how committed they are to the causes they represent.
