Campbell out of England squad

Campbell out of England squad

Sol Campbell has been forced to pull out of the England squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers, but Harry Redknapp hopes that he will be fit to return when we play Liverpool in a couple of weeks time - judging by today's showing he will definitely be needed, hopefully Linvoy Primus will also be back!

It had been hoped that Campbell could become one of the first Pompey players to pull on an England shirt in a competitive match for the first time in over 50 years, but a hamstring injury has forced him out of the squad again, as injury had the friendly against Germany last month.

Of course we still have David James - who could be this man, but to be honest I think that Spineless Steve will stick with Paul Robinson.

My thinking is that Campbell's chances of playing for England again might be slipping away, as the more he keeps being forced out the less chance it gives him to impress Spineless Steve, particularly as others, who will be expected to get back in will soon be returning from injuries.

He was clearly missed by Pompey today who defended poorly right along the back line, particularly in the full back areas though.

Becoming a bit of a sicknote

Sorely missed today.

Sdaly agree Robinson may get the nod & Sol is running out of chances.

totally we missed sol big time... the sooner optimus primus is back too the better. i really think that sol, optimus and distin all need to be in the team. all three are best in the middle, but we could play disitn at left back in place of hermann - who isnt good enough! or optimus as right back, pushing johnson into midfield if 'arry feels he has to play, as he cannot defend at all... it wont happen but all 3 need to be in the back 4 to tighten things up.

sol will do well to get in the next squad as dawson, king, lescott and possibly others will be fully fit i reckon and will all be ahead of him. if he plays exceptionally well then spineless cannot overlook him, but its making it easier for him to do so if he keeps having to pull out injured. i hope jamo plays, but unless we see another howler from robinson i dont think jamo will get a lookin in either of these games - i might be wrong tho...
02/09/2007 20:26:00
sols way into the squad is if steve thinks we need a little more experiance in the defence - no matter how well he plays, there are loads of good centre backs in england, and sol is getting on a bit. Jamo is englands No. 1, and the whole country knows it...the whole country bar 1 man...
02/09/2007 23:43:00
Its a shame about Solid, as I too think he was there for cover only and as the younger guys get fitter his chances will get slimmer.. Jamo on the other hand im not so sure about ... I think he will get the nod above Robinson.. although the odd clean sheet (something which became his trademark last season) seems to be lacking recently... altough not (always) his fault its one of the things hes judged on..
03/09/2007 01:20:00
robinson kept hardly any clean sheets for spurs last season tho and has kept prob only 1 this season - as you say tho mate keepers are judged on this. i still believe that jamo should be the no.1, but reckon robinson will be the no.1...
03/09/2007 08:38:00
sad for sol that was his last chance, if we are being totally honest jamo has cost us at least three points this season and i am not a little worried about him being no1, if he makes a cock up, he will struggle to get over it.

Have you noticed how Sol appears to miss all the big games!! Manure and Liverpool last season and Manure and Arsenal already this. Pleased to hear Joleon Lescott has been called up as he is a form player and that does not generally count for much.
