Pompey get Burnley away, that'll do!

Pompey have drawn Championship side Burnley away in the third round of the league cup.

This draw will please many fans, as a poll ran earlier in the week pointed heavily in favour of a Championship, or lower standard side preferred because it was believed that this would aid in our quest for progression in the tournament that many, myself included think we could win.

I am sure that the club are pleased with an away draw too, as my thinking is with the current ticketing problems at Fratton an away draw would have been favoured.

Burnley will not be a push over, but even with a 'second string side' we should be able to go to Turf Moor and get the done.

We just have to make sure we do not let Djimi Traore try any off the line back heelers, as last time he tried that for Liverpool it went horribly wrong and they got dumped out!

sorry, i did notice that and meant to reply but forget in my rage... i have been a part of this site for some 12-18 months i think, but only took over as editor about 3 months ago, and tbh i think that the response - 79 comments i think - is the best ever, without doubt the best ever on an article in such a short time...

i was made up by the amount of comments and interaction this site had yesterday, and during the last few days tbh - i proves that it can be done, so i hope that we see comment numbers and intereaction high day in day out now, weve proved it can be done!

Thanks for that mate. Just seen on SSN, a poll of all Prem team supporters showing were they feel their team will be in 5 years. We were Third!!! Mind you Man City were top!!! We are an optimistic bunch, mind you just as well it wasn't this morning!

ahh, but i CAN see man city finishing top in 5 years. i REALLY hate to say it, but how has sven taken a 12man team, fit only for div1, and turned it into a team second in the table, that can beat man u, with a load of "who's thats???" that we have never heard of in the space of 1 month. i am literaly quite afraid that our hope to be the team moving up the table fastest could be overtaken by man city...i even saw (in the telegraph...) a man u fan saying he expected them to finish below man city...but that iis completly beside the point...

Couple of points ........ Burnly is a brilliant draw. Assuning we get thru - theyll be a 'maximum' of 11 prem teams in the next round so at least 4 we could' draw from outside (33%).... This could be our year fellas. Secondly... agree, would love to see a bit more of Mvuemba...... Thirdly.... This site was fantastic last night, so much comment and opinion, not all of which I agreed with with but all done in a constructive and friendly way.... Rug you're landlordship is paying off and to the rest of us... Keep it up fellas this is truly Pompeys No1 forum...

it really is pompeys number 1 forum...or at least the first one thatcomes up when you type "pompey" into google ;-) it would be great to get a non premiership side in the next round - and would be better still if another came up againin the following round...wishful thinking maybe, but this could be our year!!!

agreed mvuemba is a classy player - i watched the highlights of the reserve game with chelsea and his free kick was fantastic, only a great save denied him a great goal. he will prob be a league cup player mostly this season, or a bencher but he is a future french international without doubt and has a massive future with pompey.

i think we will struggle to beat them, we will win out in the end but i wouldnt be completely surprised if there is not a competitve return match to be won at FP. Hope Nugent plays and scores so he gets that winning feeling.

Dont get too overconfident lads we have an history of dumping Prem clubs out this competition and FA Cup especially them that are daft enough to put out a B team (cue Liverpool). Aston Villa,Spurs and others have all gone away with bits of banana skin stuck to their arse!!

with respect mate pompey do not really have that many players that will class as 'reserves' as on the whole most of our squad are good enough to start most matches. yep, it will not be easy but i still think we should win and will...
