Bring on the Arsenal

No matter what I do, I cannot seem to shake that flat feeling that I am feeling today, we do not even have a match to look forward to today, as we have to wait until tomorrow to face Arsenal - if you have not already made your predictions in the Pompey predictions league on this match do it here.

Scratching around looking for something to do I have listened to Lauren and Joe Jordan on their views on Arsenal this weekend, as well as watching the reserve highlights - worryingly Linvoy Primus looked to pull up after Chelsea's second goal - I have also listened Papa Bouba Diop and Glen Johnson and what they have had to say about their moves, all on this on pfcTV.

Diop seemed more interested than Johnson, but as positive as I try to think I cannot understand how a right back and a defensive midfielder are going to benefit us, I just cannot get past this.

Although when I look at the bigger picture, over the course of the 3 months of the transfer window and not just the bitterly disappointing 1 day on Firday far more quality has arrived than has left, so overall we cannot be unhappy, it would be crazy to be unhappy!

With no match I have little to look forward to today, I am just wallowing in my own self-pity, as I say scratching around for something to do. There is not even any football on the box - unless I pay for it - and no one else is around today, they are all out doing this and that but at least I have a bottle of Vodka with my name on it calling me, but then I will probably be wallowing in my own self-pity again tomorrow with a hangover!

Yesterday was quite a day, it was very productive Vital Pompey wise with plenty of interest from you fellas out there, which was really good, lets keep this kind of level of interest up.

After digressing I must get back to my point, bring on the Arsenalů

Matty Taylor, Lauren, Hermann Hreidarsson and to a degree Harry Redknapp have targeted Arsenal as a match that they really want something from, with most thinking we can get something - which we can I reckon.

Last season we should have beaten Arsenal, we went 2-0 up and stayed that way with just over 30 minutes to go, but in the end hung on for a 2-2 draw. But with us a year wiser and overall - with the players that have come in during the summer transfer window - a year better we should be going to Arsenal looking to win.

After a week of frustration at not getting at least the point we deserved against Chelsea last weekend - as well as frustration at the past 24-48 hours with what has gone on transfer wise - we need to match that level of performance against Arsenal tomorrow and hopefully at least put in a great performance, which can ideally bring us 3 points to compensate what has gone on.

We are also a year wiser as you say, but Arsenal should be beating teams like Portsmouth quite comfortable, especially at home.

that is what is wrong with this game, 'clubs like arsenal' thinking they 'should' be beating 'teams like pompey' comfortably...

that said i prob say similar things about pompey and 'clubs like derby', so its swings and roundabouts really i suppose...

Exactly, as much as Pompey have improved and are a good team, Arsenal has improved in those areas that needed to be fixed. It will be difficult for Pompey to go into a lead at the Grove again. But I see a really good match up between the 2 sides.

Go and give it a go Harry, Arsenal expect to beat us do they, good time to shove it up them then isnt it? 4-4-2 Harry and get at them, they had a fight there last year and they will have another hopefully

Arsenal should be beating all teams at home, Pompey no exception. But we all know we'll make it difficult for ourselves don't we.

pompeyrug, the reason why we 'should' be beating pompey is coz the game is at home for Arsenal, and if we are realistically to challenge for the title, then we ought to be winning this game.

If we let them play they will hurt us. Have a go, unsettle them & maybe we can get something.

Well, realistic challenge for the title signals delusions fromt he start really doesn't prits? Arsenal finish no higher than 4th and that will be a stretch - we'll be no more than 4 places behind you either so tomorrow will be an intersting game. 2-2 my prediction

prits mate, i really like arsenal and have done for yrs, my youngset bro - traiter! - opted for arsenal so that is another reason i look for them but if you challenge for the title, right to the bitter end i will be very surprised... i think you could win it in the next few yrs, but it wont be this yr even if you do beat pompey as you 'should' :)

tbh i really think we could come away with 3 pts after a 2-1 win, altho a draw will be a fine result.

Im sure Ashburton Gunner ment no insult. If we are seroius title challengers these games are must wins. I always have high hopes when you lot come to north london because theyre usually cracking games. Last year was no exception. Good luck to you all.

Actually, I think this will be Arsenals toughest game of the season so far. Looking at Pompey's stats on their games, they are not a bad team. In fact they should have drawn with Chelsea if not beaten them. So, bring it on. I feel this will game will see how good Arsenal really are and how much they have learnt from last year.

You may not understand the purchase of Diop but if you had to face him and Sulley in the middle of the park, i'm sure you'd run a mile. The pairing sounds pretty formidable to me. Ashburton Gunner - From what I've read, your fans see this match as a real banana skin so here's to hoping...

arsnal should beat us at home - in the same way that we expected to beat them at fratton, and will expect to beat them at fratton. Even when we were new to the premiership, we expected to win home games, its just wheather its "hope" or "expect" that is the question. Pompey fans will all be seeing this as a possible 3 pts - as it is (nearly) always a good game, and we should be particualy fired up for it. My expectation would be (another) draw, as neither side will want to drop points, with both having something defensivly to prove. unfortunatly, i am not expecting the most exciting game, and either team to nick a goal (perhaps) at the end. having said that, it will still be open, and an early goal will chanage everything.

i really think it will be a great game, much like most the games that arsenal and pompey play against each other, i cannot wait - arsenal is always one of the 1st games i look for when fixtures are released.

arsnal was THE first game i looked for (other than the scum, as i just wanted to remind my self that they wern't good enough to play us...)i HOPE it will be a good game, and i HOPE we win. In fact, i HOPE we win the league...lets just start with an away win for now...

Arsenal are a decent team, but they won't win the league. Pompey are a decent team, but they shouldn't beat Arsenal.

lemon or almunia - either will do me as both are a little suspect, altho the lemon is so unpredictable you might even get a penalty when you have a corner, a la arsenal v spurs a few yrs back... it will be a cracking game i reckon, with pompey getting the away win we have been craving for so long!

hopefully we will get the draw and then at least the same at liverpool. I'm just worried HR will try to play Diop or GJ, they havent played for their clubs prior to joining us. I seriously worried about GJ as at Chelski they saw nothing to make them think GJ had got some positional disciplin or responsibility. Please dont play them harry and we might get 1-1.

agree with a lot of your article pompeyrug but i think liverpool at home will be a greater chance of points.
