Defoe to Blackburn or Pompey?

In a frantic transfer deadline day, it has thrown up some new information, which has been brought to my attention.

There had been talk of Jermain Defoe interesting Blackburn and Spurs are long-term admirers of Blackburn's Morten Gamst Pedersen. Vital Blackburn and Vital Tottenham have run stories on this today.

But some new information that could see him go to either Blackburn or Pompey late in the day has just been sent to me.

This is not something that has just been made up, it might not come off but it is being used so opinions can be sought.

Just had a call from my Spurs mate at one of the red tops, they are trying to confirm a story that Defoe has put in a transfer request and has had initial discussions with Blackburn with the view to a Pedersen plus £5m deal.

Spurs are pondering this however it seems Pompey have just made a similar offer of Taylor plus £5m.

Both Pedersen and Taylor are left sided players and would fit the spurs requirement.

Defoe it seems has become interested by Blackburn as they can offer Uefa cup this season and he sees this as a route back into the England fold, however Spurs prefer Taylor.

He says, and again they are trying to confirm this, but due to popularity of Taylor and Pedersen neither club want any deal to go through until the very last moment.

It's going to be a late night.

Nothing has been confirmed, but this information is some of the latest, that could be doing the rounds very soon.

As said, this is not meant as fantasy speculation or gossip.

If I was not convinced that this could have more than some truth behind it it would not be used, Vital Pompey is not into rumour mongering, within comments maybe so, but not in articles - maybe in the past but not now.

Are you sure you want Defoe? Sure in the right club he could shine I guess. but during his 122 games for spuds he only found the net 39 times..

This story fits as I saw somewhere today that Pedersen had been seen parking near White Hart Lane!! And Defoe was seen at Ewood last night for the UEFA game with Mypa last night.

Spoiler = Im with you how does .... Pompey minus GON, Matty & Dej plus Defoe and Johnson = improvement - Hope Rugs contact has got it wrong - Harry's not living up to his 'Santa' promise at the moment..

im not sure what will come off, if anything, but it has come from a source that i trust completely - so with the pointer in mind you say eastneydave, it does seem to have a fiar bit of truth, particularly the blackburn part...

ok now ive calmed down a bit.... GON hasnt featured on the pfctv or spoken out whereas matty is plastered all over the site and has regular intervals... he doesnt sound like someone who wants to leave! defoe to blackburn then .... where he will not be a success!

that is exactly what ive thought mate - o'neil has been the one they have sacrificed, so to keep us happy they are plastering matty taylor all over the shop... he doesnt look like a fella that wants to leave, but then again neither did o'neil. there will be a riot if 'arry lets both o'neil and taylor go in the same day...

I agree Spoiler, I've never been a Defoeist and the thought of losing another English vertebrate in the side is too much to contemplate. So, Harry, please stick Defoe up yer botton, you son of a silly person. Nuge is fine.

Lets stop this whole Defoe thing - it isn't going to happen. SSN reported that Manure enquired about him and Spurs slapped a 20m fee on his head.

Gotta be honest. Don't want to lose O'Neill or Taylor, but if GON has failed the medical, hope that doesn't mean Matty goes since my preference would be to keep him over GON.

...and enough Defoe already. He's nowhere near worth losing Taylor and would regret going to Blackburn thinks me. Let's just get by with the strikers we have for now and look in January.

i feel a real loss that gon has gone to the Averge Red band...I also feel it is madness to sacrifice him for Papa douba sick note..originally i thought gary was off to finance a deal for Defoe/duckjohnson or crouchie but at 11.15 its to pay Fulham.....I dont get it..thats not an improvement..flipping heck i didnt even want OOps a mistake Johnson...any as ive said all along Rug DEFOE AINT COMIN......NOR WILL HE COME TO US cause he's too big a star to play for Portsmouth..or Blackburn.. to squash that nonsence

Just because we dont get a new striker in this window, doesnt mean the funding from Gary O aint goin towards one. Papa Smurf wont have cost 5 mil!

Not entirely sure what happened re rumours of Defoe to Blackbun, Pompey or Manure... but it would seem that if hes not put in a request to move on then he must obviously be happy being fouth choice at Spuds - Shows a lack of ambition and drive to me, so not sure wed want a player like that - The next person is says Defore should play for England will probably get laughed at by me and a few others I guess.

i still think that this really was a possibility you know mate. blackburn hold pedersen in the same sort of light we do matty taylor so i could genuinely believe that both sides could have looked at this for an option - but the backlash, particularly from pompey having already sold o'neil would not have been accepted... as much as i might have wanted defoe, maybe blackburn would have too, it would be a cole day in hell before i thought he was worth 5 plus matty taylor/pedersen as both these players are worth close to, if not more than 10m in todays market, which would have valued defoe at around 15m... sod that, he is out of contract in the summer let him do 'a sol campbell' and ***** off for nothing. i could still him leaving in january tho.

Fair shout Rug, especially re the Taylor & Pedersen comment re 5m, but I still think that if Defoe wanted to move he could have forced the issue Pompey & Blackburn aside if he had made enough noises Jol & Levy would have let him go - If only to save his wages and get a minimum of say 7m for a fourth choice forward.. one premiership side would havesnapped him up .....trouble is he thinks hes better than he is....

tbh i think that defoe is underrated - but maybe im alone in that thinking? if he doesnt sign his new contract in january then his value will drop to below 10m, with them probably likely to accept something like 5m rather than lose him for nothing... i just hope we dont swap matty taylor for him when january does come.
