It wont be Anelka

It was always a long shot, but we can now definitely cross another name off the list of strikers Pompey 'might' be looking to go for this summer, as Nicolas Anelka has signed a new contract with Bolton.

It had been looking like Anelka would leave Bolton, but after signing a new 4 year contract that puts an end to that one - for now anyway. As much as contracts do not really mean anything these days, it means he will not be going anywhere, well not in the next 24 hours!

The clock is ticking, the names - that the media want us to know about anyway - left in the hat are Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and Eidur Gudjohnsen.

I most certainly would have taken Anelka, but to be honest I will not lose too much sleep over the fact that we cannot have him and I would still be happy and content with what we currently have in all honesty.

Anelka is without doubt a great player but he's never been anything other than a short term fix for any club he's played for. He's there for a season and then moves on. With that in mind i'm not too bothered that he won't be coming.

Well at least I'll sleep tonight. Didn't really want him although I expect that tomorrow is going to be an up and down day for Pompey Fans. Predictions Taylor and Stefanovic to go with maybe 1 more.

TBH in hind sight i am not surprised he has stayed, with the connections of Sven and half the stolen money stolen from thailand in the bank you have to assume they will become a force to be reckoned with this season

Could the possible sale of Nuge been a loss leader to the fact that Taylor is off to Spurs with no Defoe coming in return? My hunches for deadline day at Pompey 1. Vagner Love, cause nobody else comes in ie Crouch Defoe & duck 2. Lassina Diarra on loan from Chelsea. 3.Pappa Diop from Fulham with Dej going the other way as part ex. 4 Sean Davis going to Boro or Fulham. Matty Taylor to reject late move to Everton. this is all off the top of me Nog- before you pay any heed to this nonsense you should check my form in the pompey predictions league

Exactly L L Blue....otherwise we'll be playing 5 a flipping side as someone (mentioning no names) is selling all our key players so we'll be ready to play Divvy 1 footy next season....can't bring myself to even say Play Up Saints :-(((

Spurs fans go on about the balance of their side needing aleft-sided player, Matty goes what about our balance?

Dont sell Matty, would rather not have a big name striker than lose Super Matt.

30/08/2007 22:29:00

totally agree mate, as i have said for weeks, if losing matty taylor brings us this 'star striker' then i would rather not have him. let the players we have prove they can do it - which i reckon they can.

I can see a Matt Taylor plus a few bob for Defoe deal happening. I hope we don't lose Matty though he's a class act.

Thank God ! I hate that thing Anelka does with his little black mittens whenever he scores a goal...almost as if someone put a wooden stake through him. Anyway, if he's going to sulk, better he be in a place worth sulking about.

And if we get rid of Taylor to save cash even if Nugent stays, someone is on serious drugs.

Rumour has it that Glen Johnson is on his way back again, as Lauren is perma-injured this would be no bad thing?

I agree It was hilarious and gauging his reaction in the second post in no way planned - maybe he thought he was going to team up with Robbie Fowler (lol) - Thanks Russelm for one of the best laughs I'd had tis week .... Im sure they'll be a time when you can get your own back

ive seen the glen johnson links too, tbh i wouldnt want him back. i wasnt that keen on him last season, infact i thought he was crap overall... my thinking is he peaked several years ago and will not reclaim that level. he was given a final chance with chelski and stank the place out - he was terrible. may alot of his problem is he hasnt grown up, if he does maybe this will improve his concentration levels. nope, i wouldnt want him back tbh, but i bet he will return...
