Traore back to his Liverpool best

Djimi Traore has told the Pompey Site how he is pleased with his current form and how he feels he is back to his best, 'I'm pleased with my form, I worked hard during pre-season to reach the right level. I'm back like I was at Liverpool.

'For me, it's all about confidence, I'm not thinking about making a bad pass or a mistake. I play forward, I try to attack like a winger. I always think positive and try to stay focused for 90 minutes'.

I was dead against Traore's signing when he first arrived, as when he did I voiced my obvious disgust, as did many others in fairness, at his worth - those of you that have been with this site for some time may well remember my rant, when I was a mere match day reporter.

However in my defence I always said that I would back him now that he was a Pompey player and soon backtracked and rethought my stance, deciding that the fella deserved a chance, as past reputations are not always true.

Early on he did little to change my mind, but he has steadily improved and during pre season and the start to this campaign, despite the odd blip in concentration I have been impressed with him, as I was towards the end of last season - his goal line clearance against Arsenal was fantastic.

He had some shockers for Liverpool, the attempted back heeler off the line against Burnley an all time classic, but at the end of the day he played over 100 matches for them and won a champions league winners medal, so he could never have been as bad as he was made out anyway.

Yep, I like Traore and feel we will see the very best of him at Fratton.

come mate, in all fairness - like i have said - if he was really as bad as people always say he was with you how come he played so many matches for the club? you dont play a few matches, let alone 100 plus for a club like liverpool if you are really that bad...

Djimi is certainly popular with the scousers. Yes he made mistakes but they do know how to hound a player out (the songs Blame in on Traore, and Thats Traore show that) rather help him through it ala Benjani. Djimi is now getting back his self belief and has played well out of position this season. Go Djimi prove 'em wrong.

I've seen him have plenty of good games for Liverpool. Its just some the mistakes he's made have been really high profile. He is definitely not as bad as some people make him out. Didnt play too badly in the 2005 Champions League final.

My dad used to be a steward at Bradford City. He once saw Traore playing for the Liverpool Reserves. Apparently, he looked like a fantastic player.

I tell ya what guys, Djimi gets a hell of a lot of bad press. He made some silly errors for Liverpool and thats where it comes from, but when he's got his mind right he's a terrific little (big) player. First half against Milan he was diabolical, awful. 2nd half he was immense, playing in a back 3 against the likes of Crespo, Kaka and the old Shevchenko and he was massive. I really like Djimi. He's a good player, but his attitude is absolutely spot on.

Dont blame it on the BISCAN! Dont blame it on the HAMANN! Dont blame it on the FINNAN! Blame it on Traore....He just cant, he just cant, he just cant control his feet!...... Scousers do have a good wit for football songs. Alas, that was an EVERTON song.

Nearly as good as the song sung to Ronaldinho by the Kop 'Cilla wants her teeth back, 'Cilla wants her teeth back, da da da da - tiddly om pom pom ........ or something like that. Back to Djimi - His attitude is the thing that has impressed me mostsince hes been here - Good on ya mate you never know you might just win another champions league medal, but wearing Blue this time :)

Still to be convinced. His brain is a very long way from his feet & they don't always work together.

He's always prone to an error, thats what makes him exciting to watch lol. Never a dull moment with good ol' Djimi.

I think he's a good squad player, but not necessarily to be included in the starting lineup.

Oooh nah he's not a good squad player. Dont think I was ever comfortable with Djimi when he was on from the start, coming off the bench and needing a bit of time to warm up would be even worse lol. Shame he spent 5 years under Houlliers guidance, could have been a real top-class player with the right manager.
