Nugent looking for more goals

Nugent looking for more goals

David Nugent scored his first Pompey goal last night, then immediately saw Harry Redknapp admit that he might sell him!

Nugent has since spoken on the Pompey Site, where he paid tribute to the fans and is now hoping for more goals 'hopefully I can get a few more chances now and score a few more goals.

'I'm delighted. I just want to show the fans that I can score goals. I've started three games, come off the bench twice, and scored a goal.

'I'm happy. That goal's going to give me more confidence and hopefully more goals will start flying in. Strikers are paid to score goal, that's what I'm here for.

'The fans have been class. I know they're going to be behind me all the time, and it was great to hear them sing my name when I scored'.

I was absolutely delighted when Nugent scored - and so was he, did you see his face - it was probably his hardest chance yet, but he took it really well and looked over the moon to have done so.

You have to ask yourself this one question, do these comments sound much like they are coming from a fella that is looking to leave Pompey? They do not to me.

That is what makes what Redknapp said last night all the more perplexing.

Players sometimes say what we want to hear, but they say these to other sources other than the clubs official site, if Nugent wanted to leave he would not be saying these kinds of things to the Pompey site.

The same applies to Matty Taylor, he is not looking, sounding or acting like a fella that wants to leave this club either so neither should be allowed to - come on Pompey do the right thing.

It is real Cloak and Dagger stuff this last few days of the transfer window and I for one can't understand what is going on. We appear to have a happy squad but it appears as though some may be shipped out against their will - we will just have to wait and see.

Yes just keeping fingers crossed that the window shuts without too much damage to our reputation.

Of all the things I've strongly disagreed with what Redknapp says, this has to be the strongest. Derby manager Davies denies a Nugent link, then Rednapp rubbishes the chance of Nugent even leaving. Then he says that the 4.5m player, who we only just signed last month can leave if he wants. That's just ****ing ridiculous.

No its not rediculous. Lets look at a few things here. 1) Nugent is young and maybe he isnt happy leaving friends and family up north. 2) Maybe Harry has seen something we havnt that he finds worrying, and therefore understands its pointless trying to keep an unhappy player. 3) Its utter bull which Harry is simply going along as thats what the media want to hear. In the meantime, while everyone is wrapped up in Nugent this and Nugent that, then Derby and Pompey get on with other business elsewhere, uneffected by media interfering. My money is on Nugent staying for years, and Defoe joining him by friday night.

i hope you are right mate - but from what he is saying nugent isnt much looking like the one wanting to leave. i cannot see that 'arry has seen anything to make him doubt the fella, as he is a class act. i hope it is just a case of deflecting attention away from other people he is targeting... if we can have defoe and nugent both here come 00:01 saturday morning i will be a very happy man.

Loving the optimism Midge I think we should all hope for that, I think HR needs to look at the longterm future of the club as well as the short term success and that means keeping some of the younger players, but ultimately if HR makes the decision then we should not complain too much as HR rarely makes any mistakes and must know something we dont! This story is so odd, I am confusing myself!

agreed mate i do accept pretty much everything 'arry does, we have to, we are pompey this will not change, but some players being allowed to go would be alot harder to forgive... that is true mate, he has to look for the long term too, all the more reason to keep nugent, o'neil, taylor etc... all we can do is wait now, so that is what i will do, no matter what we do or so it will make no difference will it...

All we can do is wait eh Rug - I'm a nervous wreck with all this merry go round stuff - I dont recall it ever being this bad before or am I just blinded by the great healer which is time. Oh well Que sera and all that, only 55 hrs 29 mins and 42 seconds to the window closes - Then we can turn our attention to something else .... Like who might join or leave in January .......arghhh - Im off to kick the dog

reading between the lines it seems Harry is saying the decision is up to Nugent, if he wants to stay Harry's happy to keep him but if he wants to go then thats his decision. Is this perhaps Harry using his man management skills? One things for sure if he leaves already he'll make Lee Chapman look like a real stayer. Personally i'd like him to stay he got into a lot of good positions last night and but for a bit of luck could've scored earlier in the game.
