Matty Taylor should have been in

Matty Taylor should have been in

Steve McClaren should have rewarded Matty Taylor with an England call up for the Germany game! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from Maniak101's poll are thoughts that I shared.

Taylor has seemingly been on the fringes of an England international call up for sometime, but although there were numerous injuries for England last week he still could not quite force his way in, but this might have had something to do with the lack of matches he had played for Pompey at the time as much as anything.

My thinking - from as long ago as our championship winning season - has been that he would play for England at some point. Injuries and loss of form saw him lose his way, but he has returned, particularly over the past 12 months or so with not only a real high level of performance, but also a level of consistency, something that he might have been lacking before.

Yep, Taylor will play for England, of that there is no doubt, but it is beginning to look increasingly more like this could happen with him no longer a Pompey player as a move away - as much as I would not want it - is highly probably this week, in my opinion anyway.

What the poll asked - Should McClaren have brought in Matty Taylor instead of Shorey for the recent game against Germany?

How you voted - Yes 76%, No 12%, Not sure if he's up to it 12%

Current Poll - Pompey saw off Leeds last night, maybe not convincingly, but we got the job done, so that is all that matters.

Now that we have overcome the potential 'banana skin' the focus can shift to our next opponents, but do we want it easy, or tough, that is what Chix wants to know with this - 'we beat Leeds, who do we fancy in the next round?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

I think Matty is well overdue an England call up - But from a selfish point of view I'd rather see him in a Pompey shirt not playing for England than being a Spuds player donning the three lions

McLaren says nice words about him but refuses to pick him. HE should have Downings place in the squad not Shorey. Matt is not really a left back but leftsided player.

Good shout Dave - Forgot about Downing - Its odd though that McClaren doesnt give him a call, even if just to join the squad and get established with the set-uo - England have so few left sided players, if I were him I'd keep all the good ones sweet - You never know when you might need them.

Yes even just to give him a taste of the England eperience at senior level. Bl00dy Dyer 30+ caps, no goals scored.

Done Deal - Smith in permanently from Swindon

The interest Pompey retained in Smith, with him 'in our sights' has resulted in him returning to the Blues on a permanent basis after signing for an 'undisclosed fee' from Swindon.

Cushioning the blow

Much, that needed saying, about Webster's exit for Ipswich and the arrival of Clarke in return (and cash) has been said hasn't it? Doyle's been spot on with what he said.

Swindon striker in 'Pompey's sights'

Michel Smith, who was of course on loan last season, could return? He's still in 'Pompey's sights' by all accounts after Swindon informed him he's 'surplus to requirements' now.
