Another potential striking target has slipped the net, so will this mean that Harry Redknapp will stick with the striking options he has, at least until January or will he still want more?
With Yakubu going to Everton - is he really worth £11m though? - another would be high profile target has gone, that only leaves Nicolas Anelka but my thinking is I cannot see Pompey paying the £11m, maybe more that would be required. Other than Anelka my favoured targets would be Leroy Lita or Jermain Defoe - but we are not going to get them, well not this month anyway are we?
Benjani, David Nugent, Kanu and John Utaka, with Niko Kranjcar also capable of filling in, or playing just off the front man does gives us enough of a threat to see us through until the new year, so rather than signing a striker for the sake of signing one should we not stick.
During the summer when I watched the England U21s in Holland I was really impressed with Lita, so should we be able to snap him up at some point in the next 12 months or so I would be more than happy. He seems set to leave Reading at some point, so if we are still in the market at that time hopefully we will follow up rumoured interest.
Although he is not to everyone's liking he is most definitely the sort of goalscorer Pompey would like, so by waiting until January Defoe could still become a real possibility. So then depending on how much he is playing - for club and country - as well as how well both Pompey and Spurs are doing you never know.
If the transfer window had to close today, so long as we kept the likes of Matty Taylor and Gary O'Neil - who Redknapp has again said are staying - then I would be happy with what we have.
How do we feel fellas, would you settle for what we currently have, until at least January - or do you want more?
