Yakubu says no - Anelka says yes

Yakubu says no - Anelka says yes

A new day, with 'new stories' in the papers - well not quite new, they revolve around the usual suspects but the tabloids put a new spin on things!

According to the Sun Yakubu has decided against a return to Pompey as he has his 'heart set' on a move to Everton, nothing new on this take of things until they also 'revealed' that Harry Redknapp had offered £5m cash plus David Nugent to lure the Yak back from Boro - of course he did Mr Sun newspaper writer, whoever you are…

Whereas the Daily Mail 'report' that Pompey are closing in on Nicolas Anelka. Their reports are that we are in 'pole position' to land the French international, with a 4 year deal worth £80,000 per week set to be negotiated.

West Ham and United are also said to be 'monitoring the situation', along with Everton amid claims from the same paper that Yakubu's proposed move to club had stalled due to his wage demands.

As always it is an interesting start to the day in media world, but one of the most alarming snippets I picked up on whilst enjoying my morning tea - which almost made me choke - was the little talk that El Hadji Diouf had impressed several managers, including Redknapp, whilst scoring during Senegal's 1-1 draw with Ghana.

My thinking is there is little doing in this, but please steer well clear Redknapp as the fella is not worth the trouble - on or off the field - at all.

oh and just as i publish this the sun get in on the act... the yak move is back on with 'arry making a 'last ditch' £12m move for him, how will he raise this cash you ask? simple, he will flog nugent to derby for £4.5m and put that cash towards what sounds a very fair deal as he will also give Boro £7m rated o'neil, simply lets do a deal now sounds like a no brainer for me - incase it hasnt been picked up on this is me being very sarcastic.... and there's more, 'arry has 'given up' on anelka as he wont pay the straight up £12m cash bolton want to deal... it is amazing what the papers write isnt it! when they are all writing the same things - not that often - you tend to beleive them, but when 1 seems to write the exact opposite of the other you dont believe any!

i wish i had saved my bloody money on monday morning! i got a paper at the train station when i was waiting for my train back from my brothers, having gone there for the weekend. i got the mirror as i noticed someone reading something on jamo, so wanted to see what it was - but i only left the poxy thing at the train station didnt i... that was one of the rare times when i actually did buy a paper, i usually let the online versions fuel my fire :)

i dont think you need to worry too much mate, if villa will stump up the £12m bolton want you will get him - but will he want you? tbh i would really like to see anelka - or defoe - wearing the no.9 shirt at fratton, but i dont think it would happen...
22/08/2007 10:10:00
I'm still not sold on the Anelka idea - Just think his heart wouldn't be in it - I'll happily be up for being proved wrong if he does join, but for me right now hes not the man.... Defoe on the other hand....

I really hope the Anelka rumours aren't true. The guy just doesn't seem like a good fit with us. Rug: Have to disagree with you on El Haj Djouf. One of my best friends is a huge Trotters fan so I'm often subjected to watching them. Djouf is the star of that team and brings an energy and aggressiveness that gives them bite. He's a terrific passer of the ball and seems to make stuff happen out of thin air. If we're going to get anyone with an " attitude " from Bolton, I would way rather it be Djouf than Anelka and he would cost a lot less. He'd also look terrific in a 4-3-3 with Utaka on the right and Kanu in the middle. Honestly, watch a couple of their games and you'll change your mind. The only draw back in my eyes is that he'd be off to the African Nations Cup.

Keep O'Neil, Keep Taylor, Keep Nugent, Sod Anelka, Stuff Defoe. In a nutshell.

I'm just sick to death of the constant drivel that passes for news in tomorrows chip wrappers. Is it really so hard for so called journalists to see that Harry thought it best to go with experience against Man U rather than playing Nugent, that was almost certainly the reasoning for playing 4 left footed defenders rather than using Duffy or Cranie. I've said elsewhere that i think Nugent will come good and i still think he will. He has the look of a player who knows what he's doing and once he gets that first goal there'll be no stopping him.
