Cranie makes England U21 debut

Pompey defender Martin Cranie was called up to the England U21 squad for the first time last week and he marked this call up by making his debut last night.

Cranie started the friendly match against Romania as a new looked England side were held to a 1-1 draw in Bristol, taking the lead in the 1st half when Matt Derbyshire scored. Romania levelled before half time, then had a player sent off in the 2nd half.

Tonight the full England side face Germany in a friendly at Wembley and David James will be hoping to mark his recall - after more than a year in the wilderness - with the chance to show Spineless Steve what he has been missing.

No doubt it will be a poor match, as most of the England games are these days, but hopefully James can get at least a half to show his stuff. My thinking is he deserves to play at least the 2nd half - arguably he deserves a start - after being overlooked when he clearly should have been in the squads all along, if not as the No.1.

Either way, so long as he comes back to Pompey tomorrow fit and well, ready for Chelsea on Saturday that is the main thing - get you match predictions forward for the Chelsea game in the predictions league by clicking here.

Cranie one of only four to play the full 90 - Will do his confidence no end of good - As for Jameo he deserves th full 90 as well, if not only to acknowledge his form. that said i'll settle for and he'll probably get the second half. This will be the first England friendly I've bothered to watch in a few years... I at least hope he gets on at some point

agreed mate, good on the fella this will do his confidence the world of good. i like what i have seen so far from him, we certainly have more to come from him. he played left back aswell didnt he, so his versatility was proved even more.
