Nugent will do the business for us

Nugent will do the business for us

The media likes nothing more than sticking the boot into Pompey, particularly now as we are seen as a threat to many clubs that feel that they have some kind of right to look down on us. Their most recent claims that we could offload David Nugent after only a couple of games is their most recent attempt to 'destabilise' us.

Nugent was seen as a 'gamble' when Harry Redknapp signed him, which in the respect that he had never played in the Premiership before he was, but he has all the boxes ticked that are required for him to be a complete success with Pompey in the Premiership.

I was surprised to see him left out against Bolton at the weekend, but this was not a case of him 'being dropped' as the reports had seen, Redknapp simply decided that he wanted to try something different - which more than paid off! - he has not lost faith in him, nor is he ever likely to.

There had been a recent article suggested by WalshWasGod, which was published on this site, questioning Nugent's ability.

Whilst I did not agree with a word that was written, this site is for the Pompey fans by the Pompey fans, so freedom of speech even if I do not agree with it will be given, we are all Pompey fans so we are entitled to our say on this great club even if it is not right, believed by others or even something we do not want to hear.

I know for a fact that he is not alone in his thinking - even if he was on this site by those that spoke up - as I have heard countless people, both at games and in pubs, mostly Pompey fans I might add, voicing the same opinion, to which non Pompey supporting Pompey fans have more often than not put these fellas right!

We just need to be patient with him, the more the pressure is added the worse it will become for him, then the harder he will try, which will lead him to look like a bad player - which he is not. When he ended up flat on his face against United, rather than mock him his name was sung around Fratton, this is what he needs - and will get more often than not.

Nugent is a great talent, he must be as Spineless Steve is very particular about who he selects for England duty, so for him to have played for and scored for England, particularly as a Championship player - as he was then - must make him something special.

He is more than a goalscorer, he has an all-round game that will not only help him but others. His movement is unlike many that I have seen before, very rarely by anyone in a Pompey shirt, so my thinking is that he is just trying a little too hard at the moment, so by forcing the issue it is making things more difficult for him.

Mark my works though, once this first goal comes we will see many, many more that will most probably see Nugent end the season as our top goalscorer - which will see several in double figures too! - then any doubters will be proved wrong.

I mentioned on another thread that I met his Dad and uncle on Saturday - One of the things they mentioned was the reaction to what they called 'the bootlace incident' against ManU - They said that the support from the crowd after that was fantastic and they (and DN apparently) knew that the Fratton crowd would, from that moment on, be behind him - They were also aware of how long it took Benji to score and thought it was great that in spite of this his hard work for the sake of the team had really paid off in terms of how the fans see, support & adore him - Give him time hell come good and we'll all be wondering why some Pompey Fans doubted him.

Your first line says it all 'The media likes nothing more than sticking the boot into Pompey' or in some cases just completely ignoring us. I am surprised that some parts of the media do not have a Premier League table of 19 sides because that is all they cover. What absolute rubbish about Nugget off to Derby after just 3 games. For one thing they could not afford him!! Billy Davies' own words before opening game.

I'm so pleased to see the original article generating so much mileage, I must write more of these!! Did Chix say that he met is his dad and Uncle - are they the same person? Let's just buy Yakubu back, stick him in the number 10 shirt which is where he should be and sell off DN to Derby or whoever reportedly wants him today.....

Walshy - for once humour and sarcasm comes shining through the written word ...... At least I hope it does ;) His Dad and Uncle were, I'm sure, differnt blokes, although I did have quite a few stellas before the game so double vision might have played a part ... come to think of it I now know why Pompeys vistory on Saturday was so good - Bolton had 22 players on this pitch and we still beat them !

and so will nugent, even if the first one goes in off from a toe poke that takes a wicked deflection and bobbles over the line embaresingly slowly then he will be fine after that. I vote benji to get 10 goals but if HR doesnt start him on a regular basis then i am worried that " i will score" look will go off Benji's face
