Nugent to Derby - okay then

Just when you think you have seen it all the Daily Mirror today serves us up what they say would be 'the most sensational transfer of the summer' with David Nugent heading off to Derby for £6m.

After just 2 starts and a substitute appearance, his 'axing' from the starting line up against Bolton on Saturday is seen as a 'green light' for Billy Davies - who managed him at Preston - to make his move to bring the best out of the England man.

An 'initial approach' over the weekend was not 'discouraged' so the Mirror went on to say 'if Derby can agree a fee - and he is cleared to go - then Nugent is likely to pack his bag quickly'.

Yep, of course he is!

Nugent wants to make it as a Premiership player, he sees his long term future in this league, but a move to Derby is not that likely to see this adventure last too long is it. You see come crazy theories in the papers but this has to be one of the most ridiculous in Pompey's recent tabloid history does it not?

I have just been spitting feathers reading this crap in the paper too mr Rug. So much so that i even had to post a comment about it on the "Todays Debate" story. I am amazed these reporters have a job. If they have to speculate on EVERY little thing that their warped little minds can make up, then there cant be much real life issues happening for them to write about. Fo heavens sake, managers dont last 5 minutes anymore, instead of having Bad seasons and recovering, they have a bad run of 6 games and get axed, all down to media coverage and pressure. now its players... 2 starts without goals, 1 substitute role, nothing to do with us having other strikers to accomodate, nothing to do with 3 games in 8 days... its because he is now crap and needs to be shifted quick... utter ***** again, and makes me mad...... ARRRGGGHHH sorry, feel better now.

It would be premature and incredibly embarrassing for Pompey to allow this, not to mention short sighted and just plain wrong. Keep Nuge, he'll be fine and we'll all (well most of us anyway) love him.
Et_tu_Pompeii
This has to be crazy talk doesn't it ?, although Spolier made a good point about 'loaning him out' in one of the other forums. Personally even if Harry does come up trumps with another 'decent' striker - somebody worthy of the No9 Shirt - I still think Nugent will stay and get the goals we need him to.
Chix
Agreed, he will be the next Guy whittingham, its written all over him. I saw Guy after the game, in the car park, and we asked him if he could be the next Guy, and after he joked "Theirs only one Guy hittingham", he actually agreed under Harry he could well be. And as you say we all (Well nearly lol) will love him... except the twot that wrote on one of yesterdays stories about him being a mere?????
Midge
Midge - Whittingham a good comparison - Just wish we'd paid £450 for Nugent - I read yesterdays article too - Nuff said !
Chix
Nugent isnt going anywhere ... well not sold off anyway .... he cant play for more than 2 clubs in one calendar year
Noumea
By the way your poll on "Which clubs do you hate the most" is pretty clever isnt it .... are you lot into inciting hatred now??
Noumea
Noumea, not being funny mate but im getting a bit fed up with people complaining about people's rights to 'freedom of speech' people have complained about some articles, which granted i might not have agreed with - but i am not pulling things just because people dont like things or agree with others opinions, which even i might not... its just a poll mate, it doesnt mean anything, nor will it change the world - if i could do things like that with polls trust me mate i would!
pompeyrug
back to the matter of this actual article - i was at a pub with my bro on saturday watching the game and i must admit i did hear some pompey fans doubting nugent, which surprised me, but much to my delight other people - non pompey fans - were quick to say how wrong they were and how he needs time, which he does... nugent is going nowhere for a long long time, once he gets that 1st goal there will be no stopping him!
pompeyrug
Rug - 2 points - excellently made
Chix
yea good idea loan him out, lets destroy his confidence completely after all we did that to Yak and benji didnt we ? its only fair isnt it?
russellm
Looks like conclusive proof walshisgod is a journalist for the Mirror

Derby? More like the Grand National. LOL.

nugent wouldn't have started the first 2 games if kanu had had a pre-season, he is being eased in, not thrown in
