Redknapp denies transfer talk

Reports have grown increasingly stronger that Pompey could use Matty Taylor and/or Gary O'Neil as bait to land transfer targets, or simply sell them to raise funds - however Harry Redknapp has said that this will not be the case.

Taylor is said to be closing in on a move to Spurs and with Yakubu still available O'Neil is constantly said to be the player Boro want, plus £10m in cash also!

Peter Storrie's words that some players will go that the fans will not be happy about, seemingly backing up the reports that Taylor and indeed O'Neil could be such players.

However Redknapp has said that they are two of his best players and that he wants to keep them, so they will be going nowhere. I sincerely hope that this proves the case and in 11 days time they are both still Pompey players.

Yep, players do, or have to be moved on at times, but this is usually because they outgrow a club, or the club outgrows them, but this is not the case at all with either player, nor is it ever likely to be the case - in as much as we outgrow them anyway.

I have been disappointed many times in the past when players have left, but more often than not we have had little option as they had wanted to leave, but unless either of these two will be England internationals want to leave why should we ever think of selling them - particularly at the peanuts that are being spoken about for them!

You have to back the club with what they do, but should either be sold then I will be bitterly disappointed and to be honest I would not agree with it at all, as my thinking is both players are very important parts of this club on and off the pitch, so if we let them go a massive chunk of this clubs heart will go with them.

I am glad that Redknapp has come out and said that both will be staying, but as we know what is said and what happens are not always the same thing - all we can do now is just wait and hope it does prove the case.

The Yak ain't worth £10m, let alone £10m + GON. Spurs can offer £10m for Matty but who do you replace him with? If he went to Spurs he would probably get an instant England call up, thus wacking up his value. We need the quality that these 2 give us that you don't get from the fancy dans from abroad. we need the mix of both.

completely agree with all that you have said mate. we often talk about loyalty these days, yep clubs - including pompey - dont show this much, but the likes of taylor and o'neil's loyalty and commitment would be near impossible to replace...
pompeyrug
I agree storgaematt but spurs are apparently offering 5 mill and cut price for Defoe, rumour on sky tonighht that pompey will take papa boupa diop from fulham and use him as a replacement for Taylor, whome if rumours are to be believed we will use to subsidize Anelka or Defoe. Spurs fans are saying they dont want Defoe to stay if it getting Taylor. sorry Rug HR does not get on with Taylor, and we know he tried to hawk him around twice now. This rumour is now really starting to worry me.

for once i think it is Storrie who is telling the truth.

ive said plenty of times i am worried that taylor will go... we have 10 days to see if he stays, but as i told my bro this evening i will believe one, or both will stay when i see it - at the end of this transfer window... if 'arry let him go then im sorry, as much as i like the fella i will start to be more than alittle disappointed with the way he is treating player - some i have got over him letting go, matty taylor and/or o'neil i will be far less forgiving!
pompeyrug
Both must stay if Pompey are serious about matching last seasons top ten finish - One player does not make a team, two probably don't either , but I've said it many a times these guys have the passion that we lack in other quarters of the team. Purely and simply neither should go.

I agree with most of this particularly PR's, "both players are very important parts of this club on and off the pitch, so if we let them go a massive chunk of this clubs heart will go with them". You can keep Papa Bleedin' Diop, he's no replacement for Matty or GO'N.

Am I seeing a hidden agenda here, conspiracy theories? Rumour has it that Hal is on Toppenhams short list to replace the Jolly one. Would he want Matty there when he arrives, I wonder?
Et_tu_Pompeii
that is why he wants to keep him now, he doesnt want him at spurs when he takes over... yea, like that is gonna happen anyway!
pompeyrug
HR ain't going anywhere & let's hope Matty & GON ain't either.
