10th or above the Pompey aim?

10th or above the Pompey aim?

Pompey are most likely to finish 10th or above this season! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from Et_tu_Pompeii's poll are thoughts I share in the respect that we will finish above 10th, but I think it will be higher still.

I had gone into this season with the expectation of at least matching what we achieved last season, which has to be the aim, but as I feel we have a better squad this season we could quite possibly do better.

So long as we at least match last season I will be happy, however I think we have enough quality - and could quite possibly add more during the season - to mount a serious uefa cup challenge, this is not to say that I am expecting this, I just think that we could.

What the poll asked - What league position will Pompey most likely achieve this season?

How you voted - Tenth or above 32%, Eighth or above 23%, Uefa Cup 19%, Champions League 9%, Seventeenth or above 9%, Relegated 7%, Bottom 1%

Current Poll - Benjani has started the season with the look about him of a man that believes that he can and will score, ahead of the Bolton match he already had 2 goals in 2 games, just 4 short of his entire Premiership haul last season.

He has set himself a double figures goal target this season, which is certainly a realistic and achieve able target but 'how many league and cup goals do you think Benjani will score this season?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

10th or above is fair (although as Pompeyrug says higher would be better) - The way I see it youve got the top five same as last year (maybe different order and despite Spurs poor start) Then theres the bottom 7 or 8 Derby, Wigan , Fulham, Boro, Birminghan, Sunderland + maybe Bolton & Reading Then seven fighting for 6th place to 12th - You'd hope we'd finish above Villa, West Ham, and Blackburn, So that leaves us, Man City, Everton & Newcastle fighting for 6th 7th, 8th & 9th. I can perhaps see us above two of those teams but all of them is a tall order. Be good though.. As for Benji - He works so hard it's about time he got his rewards - So I reckon 'The Undertaker' has finally found the right spade to dig up a few premiership defences ad he'll bury a decent 12 this season

A lot of others have already said this, but it would be extremely disappointing to not finish better than next year and I'm sure HK feels that way too but won't say it to the press in order to keep the pressure down.

I agree Toronto4P same as last year is no improvement, and that is going backwards. i had a dinner with a scouser and a QPR fan and when i pronounced i thought 8th or above would be acceptable they both thought Pompey would finish 7th.

i agree with T4P, same as last year is no improvement, and that is going backwards. We had a dinner on saturday evening with some friends, i pronounced that i thought we could get 8th, the die hards liverpool fan and the distraught QPR fan both instantly said 7th. We will have a bit of a hill to climb following the next 3 games but it is acheivable

Pompey aim remains the same

Doncaster, Carlisle & Plymouth are the teams to catch. Pompey are further adrift than we would want but the aim to finish top 3 remains the same. That's targeted in the coming weeks.
