Pompey draw Leeds at Fratton
The draw for the 2nd round of the carling cup has been made and Pompey have a home tie against league one side Leeds - it is still strange saying that about them!
On the face of it this looks an 'easy' match, but Leeds will be very keen to upset their Premiership opponents to advance further in the cup to bring them some much needed cash - however provided we put out a 'proper side' then we really should beat them.
We famously beat them in the FA cup about a decade ago, but the last cup meeting between the two sides - well the last one I can think of - came in the league cup in the 2004/05 season when we beat them 2-1 at Fratton. We went on to the quarter final that season before crashing out to Watford 3-0 I recall.
Before that one the last cup tie I can remember against them came in the FA cup when they spanked us 5-1 at Fratton in the late 90's. I think we took the lead through Luke Nightingale but it went down hill from there.
Since then we have spanked them at Fratton in the Premiership the season they went down.
Yep, it is a potential 'banana skin' but we should do enough to get through and keep alive our hopes of winning a domestic cup. My thinking is - as much as it may be viewed as a 'Mikey mouse cup' - I would happily see Pompey win it.

Leeds still need to recover from the -15 (-12 now) points start. They'll not care one bit about this cup game.

i disagree mate as surely a win will give them the chance of drawing another prem side, hence bring in some more much needed cash...

And recognition. 'We should be put back in the Premier League' I can imagine their fans cry. We'll surely prevent this, I hope.

Just as I predicted in the previous article Leeds. Should be a betting man. Leeds will be up for it no problem forget 15 point penalty.

Our days of losing to losers should be well and truly over. Anything but an overwhelming win against that git Bates team should be seen as disgraceful. The 15 point deduction should inspire some amusing chants hopefully.

This game comes in between the away games at Chelski & Arse. I think a win by the reserves is enough.

We have a chance to win this comp so i think we should go for it, its a squad game and apparently we are a squad team now, so one for Kanu to start, maybe could be a good game for Linvoy to start in, if Nugent hasnt scored it would be an ideal game for him. me and the boy will be going

'arry wants a successful season and wants europe, winning this will get us in - lets go all out in both cups as we 'only' have to win, what 5 or 6 matches in each to do that - thats alot easier than the 38 in needed in the prem to get in the top 5, 6 or maybe 7 :)
