Martin Cranie given England U21 call

Martin Cranie given England U21 call

Pompey defender Martin Cranie has today become the first of what we hope will be a few players called up for England at various levels. This call has come at U21 level and not full level - the level at which we will be hoping to possibly have a few called up to shortly.

He made his competitive Pompey debut against United last night and had a very good 45 minutes before coming off at half time. His withdrawal was not a reflection of his performance at all and was merely a tactical move.

His connections to the club down the road will be hard for some to get past, but so long as he does the business, which he appeared to last night I could not care less where we got him. I had been impressed with him in pre season and his start last night bodes well for the future.

Harry Redknapp is tipping him to go all the way, his selection for the U21's is the first of hopefully many step along this journey.

Thought he looked very composed yesterday, I'm prepared to overlook where he came from if he plays like that.

Pompeyrug, reference your comment to me on the subject of Cranie on another thread that's now gone, No, i dont hold anything against him regarding where he came from, he is a pompey player now, simple as that. I just didnt see the same in him as the majority seem to say,The amount of times he was done down our side, the first goal but one example, but as i say, i seem to be fully in the minority so i'll wind my neck in!! And i'll tell all the others where we sit we are wrong!! Like i say, opinions is what makes this game what it is!!

fair play mate - as i said i wasnt saying you did have anything against him, just wondered if you did... either way im not going to judge him on one 45 minutes, this review will come after several more games, but tbh what ive seen myself ive liked

Evans - Right back or right midfield?

Drew Talbot and Adam Buxton are fit but Gareth Evans continues to fill in at right back. Should this change? If so where would it leave the battle between Evans and Carl Baker?
