'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Has Mac hinted at Nugent call?

You can read too much into some things, but also not enough into others - although it is more than likely I have read far too much into this.

Upon confirming Jamie Carragher's decision to retire from international duty, when speaking to the BBC about Wayne Rooney's injury Spineless Steve said: 'we've still got Peter Crouch and the likes of Darren Bent, Andy Johnson, Jermain Defoe and David Nugent'.

Yep, he says the likes of Nugent - and others - and he might have been at the back of the field but this has raised my hopes that a solid showing from him tonight under the watchful eyes of the Spineless one - if he turns up! - will give him a very good chance of being called up for the Germany friendly.

Carragher's decision not to reverse his international retirement also gives Sol Campbell an even better chance of being recalled, provided he of course features tonight and again impresses - once again assuming Spineless follows up his intention to come to Fratton tonight?

Although my thinking is no matter what Campbell does if he is recalled, he will be back on the scrap heap as soon as John Terry and the others recover from their injuries. Either way, I will bask in the glory at any England call-ups we might get in the next few days!

Is it just me, or do others feel the same, as in, if i were Sol or James, i'd lure Spinless Stef into asking me to come back, and then tell him to shove it far up his own, as he could shove it.

sol campbell will be competing against micah richards for the centre back position, although richards could actualy be moved to the right, leaving an almost unoposed path to glory for sol. Nugent, however, is competing against a lot more playors, defoe and bent - both of which were considered much more valuble to totenham than nuggent. However, stevie, for all his problems, rates nuggent quite highly - so i would not be that surprised to see him in the side. Matty and Gary are both in steves top 50, so everyone should have a chance - even jamo ;-)

Midge, that thought has crossed my mind several times and it would be priceless to see the look on the smug gits face if the pair did do that, altho we all know that neither would if recalled would they... still it would be brilliant to see!
pompeyrug
tbh mate i still think richards will be played as right back as neville is injured isnt he - so there is room enough for sol and richards...
pompeyrug
nugent looks a decent enough player, but personally if i aws england manager there are other forwards i would turn to before him. bent, smith, heskey. i WOULD recall sol tho. him and rio in cb again!!!!
united4life
if i was england manager, there are loads of things i would do diferently. No stewert downing for a start, jamo in goal, matty taylor on the left, joe cole on the right (...he is right footed after all)...there is so much, not to mention lampard being dropped to the bench.

The Nug might have to wait a while for another call up.
