Carlos Tevez is set to make his United debut against Pompey at Fratton tomorrow night - and, am I bothered! So what, why should we be more worried about this than we would have before?
Yep he is a great footballer, who I would have in the Pompey side in a second, but United have another 10 outfield players that can and will cause Pompey problems tomorrow night. If it had not have been Tevez we faced it would have been Wayne Rooney - unlikely, but maybe both - but at this point in time I know who I would rather we faced - Tevez.
My understanding is that United did not really want to have to play him, but injuries have forced their hand.
I am not for one second suggesting that he will not cause us problems, as he will, but he only signed for United last week after all the palaver surrounding his signing, so he has had no pre season, or little time to get to know his team mates. He did play in the Copa America, which should have kept his fitness levels up but this is a different animal to the Premiership and the pressure of playing for United.
Yep, he will be great for United and will help them win god only knows how many trophies but why should we worry too much about facing him? He is only one player, we should worry about facing them all, but why not also look at the weaknesses in their side, which they do have…
We kept Rooney quiet last season, why should we not do the same to Tevez tomorrow?
Don't get me wrong, I would clearly prefer him not to play but if we let the hype surrounding 'his United debut' get in the way, mind games will mean we will lose before we even play. Lets remember the most important thing - United do not like coming to Fratton Park, this will not change just because they have Tevez in their side!
PLAY UP POMPEY!
