'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Nugent stresses England hopes again

David Nugent has told the Sun how he is hopeful that a good home debut against United at Fratton tomorrow, with a possible goal also, under the watchful eye of Spineless Steve will help his England chances with the upcoming internationals 'I've been in the England squad before and I want to be there again.

'If I can score a few, I'm sure I'll get another chance. Manchester United is not a bad game to make your home debut in.

'If selected, I'm looking forward to testing myself against the best.

'It will be a great chance to catch the eye'.

Wayne Rooney's latest foot injury may have opened the door for Nugent and providing he plays, as I would expect, if he does enough to impress the Spineless one then there is every chance that he could be handed the call against Germany in England's next friendly. If he gets this chance and does well then the Euro 2008 qualifiers could be in sight.

First and foremost I just want a Pompey win over United tomorrow, but if we can do this with David James, Sol Campbell, Matty Taylor, David Nugent and Gary O'Neil - if fit? - impressing Spineless Steve that is an added bonus - 3 points though is the priority.

until i have some prove that he is coming, or even came i too will not put it past him doing a no show again! if sol misses out then he prob wont even bother anyway...
pompeyrug
If he comes can we abuse him?
Et_tu_Pompeii
Not in our interest to abuse the git whilst he is here.

3 points the priority but i understand Sol is doubtfull for the game and that is a blow. I see the press are also questioning Sol's commitment to pompey and pre season i though the issue would be with Nugent, who to be fair is saying all the right things and making an effort, lets hope it comes right for him tomorrow.

3pts is important, but nuggent is young, and easily tempted by the idea of laying for england. if that can spur him on to play better, all the better.
