England - Sol, James and one other?

Pompey could have 3 players in the next England squad in Sol Campbell, David James and one other! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from the poll are thoughts I think could happen, although it is probably unlikely.

David James and Sol Campbell have been frozen out of the England squad since the world cup last summer - with Campbell disgracefully informed of this decision by answer message by the Spineless one and James constantly overlooked despite it openly acknowledged by most fans that he was the best English keeper around last season - however they were given a glimmer of hope by Spineless Steve last week when he hinted at recalls for one, if not both.

Yep, these two, James without any doubt, deserve recalls and should it happen, if our other English players can impress against United at Fratton on Wednesday when we get a visit from Spineless then who knows - it may well be possible that others could get in also? If so my thinking Matty Taylor is heading this list at present.

All we can do now is wait and hope that these players do impress when he watches - as if they do we will not have a better chance of seeing Pompey's first England international since Mark Hateley in 1984.

What the poll asked - Who, if anyone will get the illusive nod from Spineless Steve with England selection next week?

How you voted - Jamo, Sol & 1 other 35%, Sol 28%, None of them 15%, Jamo 6%, Taylor 6%, Jamo, Sol & 2 others 4%, O`Neil 2%, Nugent 2%, Jamo & Sol 2%, All of them 0%

Current Poll - Most people had hoped that David Nugent would open his account for Pompey against Derby at the weekend, unfortunately this was not to be the case, although I am sure it will come soon.

Nugent has the quality needed to succeed at this level, which I am certain he will, but until he scores that first competitive goal for Pompey he will always have his doubters - although not many, if any, will come from within the Pompey supporting ranks.

When do we think this goal come though, this is what pentonpompey wants to know - 'when do you think David Nugent will score his first league goal?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

i feel sol should be in the squad, but only as there are injuries, as England do have a very strong defence, and sol is getting on a bit isnt he? Matty should definitatly be in the squad ahead of downing, although possibly bhind joe cole. If i was choosing the team though, i would put cole on the right, where he is more natural, and bring in matty, with gareth barry also in the squad. Nugent could get in, with all the injuries england have up front, and with the problems england have had down the right, there is even a chance that o'neil can get in.

as for jamo, the fact he isnt in is a travisty, and i can't beleive that steve is still manager after leaving him out.

I think in fairness, James would be the more likely of the two to get a recall. He has been by far and away the Best English keeper for the past 12 months. Having seen how Micah Richards marshalled the Man City back 4 from Centre Half, I would imagine Spineless will pick him above Sol. That could well have been the performance that saves Mcnohopes face!! Don't you just know that Campbell will have a mare tomorrow, trying too hard to impress..sods law...

Or wednesday even...;-)

Sol, Jamo and Nugent but that would take support from the press for gutless steve to do that

sol deserves it for last season, and if england are wanting an experianced defender, sol is the man, if you want "one for the future" - and possibly even the in form defender, micah is the man. Unfortunalty, stevies mind doesnt work like this. He takes the playors that he likes/sven liked, and is too gutless to drop any of them. Sol, jamo and Beckhm were all dropped as a media stunt - no other reason, irespective of perfomances, plain and simple. Nugent, micah (last time), barton, and barry were all picked as media stunts. whether the playors deserve there places or not, steve will take the same XI every time, he is too gutless to change it.

isnt gary neville out injured? if so then the right back area still needs filling so wouldnt richards be played their anyway... whatever happens we only have a few days to wait and see what the spineless one will do.
pompeyrug
oh, rightback? thats easy, just put wes brown there. - no question about that, he is CLEARLY the playor with all that first team experiance, quality, and is definatlyon form this season...
pompeycarpet
I reckon Sol will make it and thats it.

if he misses out with injury tomorrow then not even he will make it will he? id not be surprised to see jamo handed the call, altho kirkland and green are both fit arent they so he will prob go for these 2 as back up for robinson...
