Pompey's first scorer this season

The fella who will score the first goal for Pompey this season will be David Nugent! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from pentonpompey's poll are thoughts I think I would now share.

Pompey get the 2007/08 season underway this afternoon with the trip to Pride Park for the game with Premiership new boys Derby. Yep, we might not often travel well but most will be expecting 3 points, along with some goals and Nugent is tipped as the player to get our goalscoring exploits underway this time round.

My thinking was Lomana LuaLua would start this game and kick-start both our seasons with the first goal, but with him on his way to Olympiakos he will not play today, let alone score.

Next in line with my 3-0 predicted win today I had Nugent down as the second goalscorer - followed by Benjani - so I would go along with him now as the most likely first goalscorer this season

Although really I am not too bothered who it is, so long as we score and win today!

What the poll asked - Who do you think will be the first player to score this season for Pompey?

How you voted - David Nugent 31%, Other 28%, Benjani 18%, Matt Taylor 13%, John Utaka 5%, Kanu 5%

Current Poll - Most believed that David James' and Sol Campbell's England careers had been over for a while - most of us have come to terms with this, even though we and so many other clubs fans know this should not be the case, particularly where James is concerned.

Spineless Steve McClaren this week has offered slightly more than a glimmer of hope to both, particularly Campbell, although as unlikely as many may feel, it could be possible that as many as 5 players will be looking to impress Spineless when he watches us this week!

Will Pompey finally see this man or men called up for England after 20 plus years, if so who - that is what the question is asking - 'who, if anyone will get the illusive nod from Spineless Steve with England selection next week?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

PLAY UP POMPEY!

nugent needs to score - we need to score, so out two paths cross nicely ;-) i only hope that we do beat derby, else i will be very upset.
pompeycarpet
we will beat derby today im almost 100% on that - as i am that nugent will score! it would be nice to see both nugent and benji get off the mark today, signal our and their intent and all that.

David, Benjy, Kanu who cares lets see them all score, the sun is shining the birds are singing and the pies are stale, yes its the big kick off, Play up Pompey.

i was going for the conservative 1-0 - and with taylor scoring. i reckon it could be a tight match. On the other hand, we (and they) havnt seen much of what muntari and utaka can do, so they will hopefully be in for a big shock, and a big defeat.
pompeycarpet
i think our attacking power - provided we arent to conservative! - will be too much, so im staying with my 3-0 win, altho - and this may be asking too much - it could be more, but i will settle for 3pts above anything else today to set us up nicely for united this week.

and benjani wins!
pompeycarpet
Best of luck to whoever wins that one, and if it´s ok with you lads, could you rest him when we play eachother? Cheers.
Blue is the colour
oh, sure Blue Is the Colour, we will just give our best playors a rest when we play you...it probably wont matter - you will beat us 2-0 anyway ;-)
