Matty Taylor linked to Spurs, again

It gets tiresome hearing the same things repeatedly I know, but today the Sun are claiming fresh reports of Spurs interest and a possible bid for Matty Taylor - with him again their 'number one target for their problem position on the left'.

This has been a long running theme for the Spurs supporting Pompey star, which is often used as a reason for him to go to them, so the 'fresh reports' are nothing new are they.

It is said that Spurs have offered £4m, but Pompey are looking for double that, which looks to have frightened them away - for now.

Although it is also claimed that cash and a 'fringe player' could be offered in exchange. I am not suggesting he is a 'fringe player' of course but we could always take Jermain Defoe in exchange, which sounds like a fair trade!

We get tired of saying it, well I know I do, but why would we want to sell Taylor? He is one of our British - which are mainly English - core of players, something that is vital for Pompey in order to retain our identity, with it also vital we keep him as he is one of our top players.

My thinking as always is, unless players such at Taylor want to leave, then we should not even be entertaining the thought of letting them do so - and nor will we.

No chance, Matty will be playing for us all this season, is this the Spurs we are a Sleeping giant fans time again. Defoe and Huddlestone would be a decent swop, and you get the most consistent left wing back in the division. Think of those spectacular long range goals.

Spuds is a big club indeed, in non-league standards anyway. Premiership? Nah.

tbh on paper, but nothing is won on this, spurs have a really good chance of cracking the top 4 this season so it would be a good move for him in that respect, but lets see what this season does before we think spurs are streets ahead of pompey - which they are not are they! they have had years head start on us and still only finished a few points ahead of us last season didnt they...

Maybe a few years ago, he may have gone to spurs, but not now. he is settled, one of the main cogs in a new set up, and in a team that will give Spurs a decent run for the money. So why would he want to go to a team, that has been full of maybe's for 30 years, but achieved nothing.

Not many other Left Wing backs would have 14% of fans saying he will score first goal of season eh! I think he will stay and get in the England squad very soon once Macca has found where Pompey is on the map.

exatly Midge, spurs have been the next big thing since long before i was born - well maybe not long before :) i hope he does stay, but as i have said before if defoe came the otherway i accept it alittle more... yep, agree mate when spineless finally watches us closely, provided they play well jamo, sol, matty and nugent all have a great chance of getting in this next england squad!

We will pay the penalty for not signing him 2 years ago. Regarding the comparison between the teams, Ok you had a good season last year (in no small part due to the ex Spurs contingent you have), but what happened the year before. The PL is about consistentcy so you need more than one swallow to make a summer. Come on Matt do yourself a favour come to a big club that will get bigger.

We have heard that old chestnut before, how are you going to get bigger? By signing Darren Bent, that was real good business at 16 million, come on Spurs fans you have spent a fortune over the last few years to win what ? the Littlewoods Cup or whatever it was called. You have flattered to deceive and how you miss Pedro, he could be doing a job for you, but it was a good decision to let him, and Sean and Noe go wasnt it. I agree that we have been inconsistent and one swallow etc. but we arent one of the average clubs that think we have a divine right to be in the Premier League, and lets be honest you are in the shadow of the Gooners and have been for a long time.

Exactly how many players do Spurs want in their squad?

A slow news day and one lazy journalist drags up a stale rumour with probably little or no truth, seriously people no need to take everything as a personal insult this is silly season don’t you know? Owenspompey - Spurs have seemingly spent a lot over the past two years (prior to this summer) but looking closer NET expenditure on transfers over that time is around £4m-£10m which, considering consecutive top 5 placings in that time, is hardly a fortune considering how much we’ve come on

Not seemingly Phart, Robinson, Chimbonda, Dawson, Zakora(cheat),Berbatov, Defoe, Bent, Lennon,Murphy, Carrick,Keane,Davenport, the list goes on mate. Our point is we are striving to achieve what you have done, the key is staying there and challenging the big four, and that does not include you however big a club you consider yourselves. If we had spent 16 million on one player i do not think it would have been on Darren. i have no axe to grind with Spurs, they are a decent side but you have to admit you are a long way off a premier title winning team as we are.

We're a thousand miles off the title but a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. We've got enough weapons now to at least compete for champions league places and with the extra money, status and attraction it brings I hope (and believe) we'll be challenging for the title by the end of the decade. I'm possibly being overly optimistic but that’s football!

Phart, well put, i hope that you have a great season at the Lane and we look forward to the game there and seeing you at Fratton. Have a word with Jermaine and persuade him to come to us. Once again mate good luck

- sorry i have to ruin your reasnobale debate, but the temptation to say this is fat too great - whilst constistency is important in the PL, it is important to consistantly improve. Spurs have consistently come 5th, and my money would be on them coming there again, whereas pompey are much more uncertain. We COULD do extremly well, we have fantastic playors, and have made steady improvements ever since milan took over - and then sascha - so our next step should hopefully be europe.

have a great season totenham, but keep your hands off our good playors, we dont want to sell, he (hopefully) doesnt want to leave, and there are plenty of other leftbacks out there - good luck.

Hit the nail on the head PC, we've been living in ARSEnals shadow so long, consistency isn't good enough and with the money spent we're expecting big things (CL or trophy). Obviously high expectations can be dangerous but as the great Bill Nicholson once said "It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low." Anyway enough about spurs, good luck for yourselves next season, if you can gel your newbies fast it could be a good ‘un

No offence, but he's worth more than Spurs will be willing to pay and Defoe would not be a fair exchange. Are you lot going to even make Europe next year, or will it be another choking case of food poisoning ?

Was worried when Matty wasnt in the starting lineup 2day, breathed a sigh of relief when he was on the bench. For a horrible moment i thought he was going to be holding talks. Please dont sell him Harry, and lets play people in their best positions, Muntari centre and Matty giving natural width on the left. PUP
