Things not looking good for Dejan

The News claims that Dejan Stefanovic has 'blasted' the club with his 'show me some respect' reaction towards Pompey, with the paper also claiming that he feels 'he is being forced out of Fratton Park'.

No doubt most of you have already read what he is claimed to have told The News, if not click here.

Basically he has revealed that he decided to step down as captain, contrary to reports, with it pointless him having the armband if he would not be playing regularly, or at least given the chance to play regularly.

He does not sound a very happy man though and my thinking is even more along the lines that his time with Pompey is getting closer and closer to coming towards and end now.

This would be a shame as he has been a loyal servant to the club, but the harsh reality is the club are moving beyond his capabilities - on a regular basis - and he is not the player he was, so he will find it increasingly hard to play, at least regularly, now.

Personally I am not a big fan of players airing these kinds of grievances in public, which although I do not know the full story, as much as Stefanovic says he loves the club and wants to stay it is not really painting a very good picture. When players do say these kinds of things, even if they are things that have already been said to the club, more often than not they end in tears - and not where the club are concerned, more regarding the players that say them.

I would like nothing more than to see him stay with Pompey this season then move into a coaching role, but with these kind of things coming out the relationship between player and club will become even more strained, if of course things are already.

The News and Pompey seem to be at loggerheads, with both sides sniping away at each other recently, with both seemingly happy to put the boot in to one another at any given opportunity. It is swings and roundabouts, but this looks as though it could be The News giving something back to Pompey?

It's a shame, Dejan's done a great job for us over the years, but last season he just wasn't up to scratch. We've got lots more competition at the back now, and unfortunately for him we've got some real quality players vying for his position(s).

As for the News vs Pompey spat, the News are probably just gutted that they haven't got Milan feeding them easy headlines and selling lots of papers for them.
Tantona
I hope that if he goes he does not go under a cloud, as he deserves better than that. I hope it is just the News trying to create news rather than Dejan being hacked off with his treatment. But in all honesty i do not think Tony Adams rates him at all

I agree, tantona, the club does not have the scandal and sackings and falling-outs of recent years and Pompey news must sell loads more papers - to be fair, I don't buy it unless there's something interesting in it.

Paper tattle. DS knows his time is up as do we.

for all i know, it could be codswollop (nice insutlt :) ) if he wants to leave, there is nothing stopping him, although it would be a shame, even if his chances are limited.

what is concerning me, is the treatment of some of our playors. this is the second jibe at the club by one of our longer standing members this summer - 2 who i thought were perfect profesionals, and excellent rolemodels. If they (toddy and steffy) are coming out with this, then it is mos probably true, and very concerning - we should treat our verterans with respect!!!

Dejan has done great for the club and he and his young family are settled in the area. Stay and fight for your place I say. Nobody gets and younger but I agree with Carpet our long serving players deserve respect!!

Yep as a club pompey are notorious for the poor way they treat players at the end of their time. It shows the club are not yet properly proffesional in manner off the field. At the same time Stef engineered a power struggle against TA and other players, he lost & deservedly so. LBH he is not up to the general standard required now, but i always maintain Stef should become a coach then manager. I think with his attitude he would be great. Why dont we do what Man U did with Steve Mctw@ and Kidd, they knew Man U, the staff new them and they did the course, it seems silly to lose that knowledge and affinity.

agreed fellas, some of the treatment our players have received over the years has been shocking - this is something we badly need to look at and change, as it is all very well doing the others bits right, or near right, but failing this isnt good enough... i also agree with you russ once again with your last comment.

think he'll fancy coming back to wednesday?
mansfieldowl
No he will not fancy moving back north. Kids settled at school etc.etc. I think he will stay and fight it out.

The problem with modern football is quite simply that loyalty has gone well and truly out the window. When a player is loyal he has to be good enough to stay in the XI and if he is not good enough he simply fights for his place or moves on. He is therefore better placed if he is not loyal but just a damn good player. You could lose him for better money or keep him for exorbitant wages but either way you need to get the best out of him. Fair go to look after loyal players but a business is a business and when it comes to the crunch it is no good being a loyal worker if you cannot cut the mustard. Move on Stef and good luck, thank you for your commitment to work hard, but don't forget when you look at your bank balance and who paid it.
