Kanu signs his new contract?

For several weeks now it was 'expected' that Kanu would sign his new contract 'any minute' and reports last week said that he had, but the club then denied this. Then on Saturday morning again it was announced that he has signed his contract, but Harry Redknapp then said it would be signed on Monday morning, so today.

The BBC are the latest media outlet to 'confirm' his new contract has been signed with them saying Redknapp has said 'I am pleased he has decided to stay. He was our top scorer last year and now he has trained with us again and looked excellent'.

I want to see something official and there is still nothing official on the Pompey site, which I have searched from top to bottom.

So until something appears on the publication that should be 100% spot on I am still not going to believe that this palaver has been put to bed once and for all.

Surely this means that the whole thing is done and dusted, he needs to get match fit now and ready to play some part in the game with Derby. I hope we dont have to go through this every season with him and he just bloody signs when it is time, anyway another option up front.

Just seeing his picture makes me angry, has a similar effect to that other mercenary; Andrew 'i'll fleece you' Cole. Wish his not insubstantial wages were put to better use!!

Like rebuilding the toilets under the South Stand. Just a week of his wages would do the job.

Hang on - this was supposed to be about Kanu. If he signs he has to play well to gain his second year, you know, well enough to get in the team. We'll see

he'll probably nbe good - and calling him a mercinary does actualy seem unfair! He organised the fantastic charity game, and does a lot of work for his charity, as well as helping the club attract playors like sulley muntari and hohn nutaka - dont forget, he recomended us to utaka. I never thought i would support kanu on this, however, i feel you guys are being unfair.

Carpet i think we were all abit cheesed off with his attitude, he was doing nothing at WBA and they wanted him gone. Harry took a punt and it paid off for both, although post Xmas he was pants for most games. We wanted him to be a big boy and sign for this season and give it his all pre-season and show us how good he can be, instead we had this sulky side of him. He appears to be a nice guy and i went the charity game to support his cause never thinking he would hold out for so long, but like you he is here , on the payroll and we should hope he gets 10 goals this season and we will all forgive him.

Fair comment carpet, I just can't get the guy. We rescue him from oblivion, last year, He undeniably had a good start to the season, however; right from the word go he/his agent has tried to hold this club to ransom with tales of Ajax and numerous other foreign clubs wanting his signature. Funny how not one of these clubs seem to have made a concrete offer. The man hasn't scored since February, and yet still took almost 4 months to sign a paper, during which time he managed to humiliate this club with his petulance which was constantly banded around the media. Also I would like to add that 10 goals should really be a minimum for a supposed top class striker to score in nearly 40 games, 1 in 4 is not too much to ask surely for producing what you are paid an exorbitant amount weekly to do. I know you'll say the other strikers didn't hit double figures, true. I can't see any of them here next season if they don't produce. The big boys have midfielders that score half that amount again. Guy Whittingham sat behind me at Bournemouth, blimey how i wish we had another like him playing now, Now there was a man who really knew where the goal was!!!!

What we would not do to have Corporal Puishment back, or someone like him, the memories are rolling back, not the greatest talent but he grafted and finished so well.

Think we''ll all remember him long after Kanu has been forgotten...that'll be about a week then.....

Yep mercenary does seem a bit strong, greedy focker is a bit more like it, but yes he does a lot for charity we all have to accept that. penton is right 10 goals first half of the season, top class striker value, 2 goals second half of the season is simply not good enough so i comletely agree with peoples frustration. What worries me now is that we wont be going for another striker what with Kanu's salary and i do think that could be better spent money, although if the guy then scores 18 goals i will deny ever doubting his value. :-)

Think your right russ, that's whats worried me for weeks, is that Kanu signs and we give up on another striker (not forward, we have enough of those!) thats pretty much all i was trying to say earlier.

i dont think kanus re-signing will affect our signings in the slightest. if harry sees a playor he wants, we will try to get him, if he doesnt, we wont. I think he was always going to stay, I knew it, harry knew it, and deep down, he knew it. Lets wait for him to be our super sub - and if he isnt, hes out of contravt - simple as that.

Seems to me that Kanu has been judged on the goals he scored. Before Christmas he was scoring everybody loved him. After Christmas the goals dried up in no small part because of crap service and everybody turned on him. He has a lot more to his game than goals and i'm pleased he signed again.

until he signs the deal and the official site confirm he has signed a deal i wont believe he has! i think he had a better season than he is often credited for and do think that him staying is a good thing, but basically i am at the point now where i just dont give a toss - i just want whatever is going to happen to happen...
