Pompey debate of the day (06/08/07)

Today's hot topic of debate for the fellowship of Vital Pompey is surrounding Gary O'Neil and Kieron Dyer.

The latter's move to West Ham collapsed last week - now rumour has it Harry Redknapp is interested in adding him to the squad, while Daily Mirror claims 'Portsmouth are ready to sell midfielder Gary O'Neil, with Fulham leading the chase for his signature'.

Lose O'Neil and gain Dyer? That's a poor deal. There are no good reasons for selling Gary O'Neil, the least worst one being to facilitate Yak's move back to Fratton.

I agree totally with you Et-tu...Dyer is a nightmare, regualarly injured, often in trouble on and off the pitch, and occasionally a very good footballer. where as Gary O'Neil is a regularly fit, Never in an any trouble/model young pro. We would be 3mill down and goodness how much in wages. As for Yak...can we not remember how many chances -easy chances -he used to miss. Blisset had to brought in to coach him,.... and he only plays half a season. I fear we have missed out on Billy Sharp already but thats my personal grumble this year. sell GO'N...not a chance...especialy to FULhAM???

agreed fellas - had alittle rant of my own on this topic in the forum, which i see has seen Et_tu_Pompeii leave alittle comment too...

Crazy, GON must stay as one of our brightest prospects, didn't play in the friendly on Saturday though! Also Harry wasn't there, who was he watching. Sorry Newcastle you can keep Dyer

For some time now, Gary O'neil has been synonymous with the name Portsmouth, it would be inconceivable to think of him leaving now.
Et_tu_Pompeii
Et_Tu i tend to agree with your first posting, i think i also agree with your second posting, the good news is i read on the net that both Newcastle and Dyers agent now state that he will not be coming here. I think we are being used to pressure the hammers in to paying the extra 2mill big sam is blackmailing them for. Lets hope Curbishley doesnt give in and absolutely dyer stays a magpie

dyer has basically been a waste of talent - injruies cannot be helped but these can only be blamed for so much... o'neil missed out on saturday with a slight groin strain i think it was redknapp said, but he also said he would be fit for this saturday... if he does not play much in the coming season or so then he will want to move on, but i cannot see this being the case anyway...
pompeyrug
Let Garry go? No No No, he is the spirit of this club and another player who gives his all every game, even playing with that injury at the end of last season. Dyer, keep him, luxury of a player who is always out injured, and the Yak, if we can afford him buy him, but give away Gary never, and sell him to Fulham? I reckon even Gary would P*** himself about that rumour.

80k a week to lie on a treatment table for recurring injuries and or mental health issues,I reckon it must be us who needs the treatment to even think about it!......80k!!!!!!!the little green men are coming to get me

Nothing more to add......agree with all the above!

GON to stay. Dyer to sod off.

martin o'neil is selling on his home-grown talent - so the media clearly are getting between martin/gary...oh well, bless there pore little soles, i guess there surnames are the same, it must be ever so confusing for the poor guys in the tablois :)... as for dyer, well, i wouldnt say no - if he would accept 1/4 of those wages, and we could get him on a free...he would be a good squad playor.

Dyer should have gone to the Hammers they'd have had a superb Physio's 11, it seems that you have to earn a minimum of 65k a week to qualify, sign on the dotted line, play 15 mins and spend 3 months on the treatment table. However he was obviously envious of the Treatment room team he was leaving behind, they have an even bigger squad!! lol
