Rangers in for Stefanovic?

Rangers in for Stefanovic?

Dejan Stefanovic has lost the Pompey captaincy to Sol Campbell, but how will this impact on his Pompey future?

The claims in the Sunday People are that Rangers could be looking at him for £1m.

It is an interesting one, he is still the club captain but he has hardly featured in pre season and was not even on the bench for the match at the weekend - the first match since Campbell was confirmed as the new captain.

Campbell, Sylvain Distin and Linvoy Primus will be ahead of him for a central defensive start, with Hermann Hreidarsson and quite possibly - as much as I did not think I would ever hear myself say this - Djimi Traore in front of him for a left back place - so he has got his work cut out this season.

As much as the decision was right to remove the captains armband from him, as his first team opportunities will be limited, from a selfish point of view keeping him would be something I would prefer but with the reality that the books need to be balanced and with time against him, Pompey might want to cash in, if not he might see it as time to seek a new challenge?

Even if he did go though, my thinking would still be that he would join Milan Mandaric at Leicester.

i havnt checked this properly, but last season, the long period that he psent out injured coincided with our dip in form. This is probably a coincedence, as no-one would say that his performances last season were at all world class, however, could it be that the team plays better with him aound? we dont know what he is like as a leader, but there must be some reason why HR wanted to keep him as club captain.

I checked the vital-rangers article on this, and they would all be pleased to have him. clearly this shows the massive diference between the spl, and our premiership!

Dejan has been a great player for us and i personally think that a fully fit Dejan still has plenty to offer. I'd certainly put him in front of Traore in the pecking order when he's fully fit. What has always surprised me is that he hasn't taken more freekicks for us, i saw him score an absolute stunner for us one day and he's hardly taken an attacking freekick since.

i think that we have so many playors that can take stunning freekicks, that it must be hard to choose who to take them! Dejen is well in front of traore on his day, but last season, that didnt happen to often did it mate? and i dont know how good hreierson is - as i have yet to see him play.

Herman is a decent left back, i thought if Delan went he would go to Leicester, but Rangers would be a great move for him. If he does go he will be viewed as another player who always gave it his best shot and nevr sulked if he was left out etc. Good luck to him, but the writing must be on the wall for Dejan

Agree totally Owens, I too think that Rangers would be a superb move for him, he is more than good enough for them, and he would go with my eternal thanks for his superb service to our great club!!!!

hermann has impressed me more than i thought he would with attitude and application so far - so he is 1st choice, even djimi has come on altho he is still an accident waiting to happen :) i thought his being left out of the squad yesterday was alittle suspect - maybe the reason being he is moving on? if he stays i will be more than happy, but if it is best for him at this stage of his career i would no begrudge him one last chance at silverware with rangers...

I think any of us would go to Rangers.massive club, CL Football, Siverware etc etc...but Dej is a family man who is settled and move 500 miles away will not be considered too favourably..However a relitively shorter move to the midlands to LCFC-not lincoln- might i think be the option he would go for, if offered. As for silverware, well you all know ive backed Martin Allens team at 20/1, so that should be that taken care of.my only thoughts are that this may be a Milan wish rather than an Allen wish which could cause some issues up there...hmm a strong willed manager and milan getting involved in transfer suggestions etc......No No No that would never happen.

I like to think Dejan will join us as part of the coaching team in due course as I really like the guy
