13-20 pts away from Fortress Fratton

Fratton Park has been our fortress in recent years, this has kept us in this league and more than helped us to our highest top-flight finish in over 50 years last season.

This is something that we will be hoping will be continued this season, however our away form, mainly down to the tactics is what has let us down, arguably most noticeably last season - this is something we need to seriously address this time round to really move in the direction we want.

13-20 points - at the higher end of the scale - would translate to a minimum of 6 wins and 2 draws from 18 matches, which should be something that is achievable really.

Going by the world famous 'on paper' method there are easily at least 6 sides in the Premiership that we should beat away from Fratton, with again at least 2 we should come away from with at least a point - but recent travels will still leave many sceptical of actually doing this.

With the players that we now have in place, provided that we dispense with the all to often 'overly cautious' approach, preferably playing with two up front home and away the mentality should not change much from when we are actually at Fratton. Clearly you have to be a little more reserved away from home, but there is being reserved and being negative - this needs to be cut out for genuine progress to be made.

Yep, 13-20 points - certainly closer to 20 though - would be my thinking for what we should be looking for as a minimum. So if we go about it the right way there is absolutely no reason why we cannot achieve this.

What the poll asked - How many points on the road do you think Pompey will achieve this season?

How you voted - 13-20 36%, 20-30 27%, 7-12 9%, 30+ 6%, 0-6 2%

Current Poll - A few polls have been run over the past couple of months to in some way enable the fellowship of Vital Pompey to get to know a little more about each others history with the mighty blues.

This is continued as we this time look at the number of games the members of this site attended last season with the question 'how many Pompey games did the Vital Pompey members attended in 2006/07?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

closer to 20 than 13 is a must, but i would really like to get more if we are going to put in a real challenge for europe, and i dont see why we cant. Matty taylor said on pfctv that he couldnt see why we cant get points away from home, and nor can I (thanks for the free trial pompey)

You are right carpet we need to be nearer 20 points if we harbour any ambitions about being higher than last year. We need to be brave in some of the games and have a go. We will see how Harry is going to play things starting at Derby who will be up for the game, but surely we are better than them man for man. Please Harry no 4-5-1 this season
Owenspompey
maybe he will try going 3-5-2 away from home...take the fight to the oposition...but no 4-5-1 please. Man fior man we are better than them, but we all soore what happenedat watford last season.

cannot see the 3-5-2 myself tbh mate - 4-4-2 would do me just leave the 4-5-1 at home please 'arry, with respect to derby, we dont need that against them...
pompeyrug
i would rather we didnt leave 4-5-1 at home, as that would be even worse :) - i know what you mean, lets boot out 4-5-1, and bring in a proper formaton to play fun football.
pompeycarpet
ha, god i too hope that we wouldnt literally leave the 4-5-1 at home - fratton - either mate, that was quick thinking to pick up on that one mate :)
pompeyrug
5 Wins and 5 draws will achieve 20pts. This looks achievable.

The away points will make the difference from close to a Euro spot & very ordinary midish table.
