Kanu agreement reached with Pompey

Kanu agreement reached with Pompey

After months of negotiating The News have broke the news that claims an agreement with Kanu has finally been arranged that will see him stay at Fratton for at least another 12 months.

He is said to have returned to training today and will put pen to paper on the new contract later this afternoon, tomorrow at the latest.

The most recent stumbling block appeared to be the number of games required for a further year after this to have been activated. Pompey wanted him to take part in 20 matches, Kanu wanted less - accounting for possible injuries and his participation in the African Nations. Either way, an agreement has been reached between Peter Storrie and the Nigerian's representatives.

It is about time this was concluded, now he can get back to training properly and ideally even getting some sort of run out in Saturday's final pre season friendly against Leicester?

Don't want him back if it means we have to miss out on another striker (Yak,/Kanoute??) Can't see Kanu getting double figures this term, I think last year was a one off, and christ he won't be match fit until Xmas!!!!

i dont think the training and fitness will be much of an issue, Kanu came to us 3 days before then of last season and hadnt trained then either, last year but as HR said then, Kanu eats sensibly, keeps in shape and leads a fairly simple life. I dont see that anything much will have changed. I still think Nugent should start against derby to hopefully get that scoring feeling, but after that who knows? LuaLua i think will still be here, Kanu clearly will, Nugent obviously, and HR has talked up Benji needing 10 goals this season and we are apparently going after Yak or Kanoute. Curiouser and curiouser, starting pair anybody?

right, i think kanu was always going to stay - he never had any offers from any other clubs, and if he did, he probably knew that he would do best at pompey. I can see him being more of a super sub, and based on hs performance against blackburn last season, I dont see why he could not be very affecive in this role - and he should get worn out as quickly not doin the full 90 mins as before. I doubt that him staying will affect our other signings - it may even boost them, as it shows that he wanted to join a bigger clu, but eventualy joined us, indicating he sees us as the equals of ajax/sevilla etc.

...actualy, the ofcial site says an agreement still has not been reached, with a few technical dicultys remaning. But anyway, im sure that he will sign, eventually...

We need another striker or two, if Kanu can get 10 this year and one of our current boys gets the same, as soon as the Yak or Freddie sign we will have our 20 goal a season striker.

I think Kanu, Benjani, Lua Lua, Nugent make a pretty decent strikeforce. I don't want to see wholesale changes but a gentle progression of players - there's always the January transfer window if need be. Look at Arsenal and Blackburn.

think were all pretty much agreed it will be Benji and one other. I reckon it will be nugent. Will Utaka start wide right in place of GO'N?
