Kanu agreement reached with Pompey

After months of negotiating The News have broke the news that claims an agreement with Kanu has finally been arranged that will see him stay at Fratton for at least another 12 months.

He is said to have returned to training today and will put pen to paper on the new contract later this afternoon, tomorrow at the latest.

The most recent stumbling block appeared to be the number of games required for a further year after this to have been activated. Pompey wanted him to take part in 20 matches, Kanu wanted less - accounting for possible injuries and his participation in the African Nations. Either way, an agreement has been reached between Peter Storrie and the Nigerian's representatives.

It is about time this was concluded, now he can get back to training properly and ideally even getting some sort of run out in Saturday's final pre season friendly against Leicester?

Don't want him back if it means we have to miss out on another striker (Yak,/Kanoute??) Can't see Kanu getting double figures this term, I think last year was a one off, and christ he won't be match fit until Xmas!!!!
pentonpompey
i dont think the training and fitness will be much of an issue, Kanu came to us 3 days before then of last season and hadnt trained then either, last year but as HR said then, Kanu eats sensibly, keeps in shape and leads a fairly simple life. I dont see that anything much will have changed. I still think Nugent should start against derby to hopefully get that scoring feeling, but after that who knows? LuaLua i think will still be here, Kanu clearly will, Nugent obviously, and HR has talked up Benji needing 10 goals this season and we are apparently going after Yak or Kanoute. Curiouser and curiouser, starting pair anybody?
russellm
Hey russ i've got more chance of winning the lotto that predicting that!!
pentonpompey
right, i think kanu was always going to stay - he never had any offers from any other clubs, and if he did, he probably knew that he would do best at pompey. I can see him being more of a super sub, and based on hs performance against blackburn last season, I dont see why he could not be very affecive in this role - and he should get worn out as quickly not doin the full 90 mins as before. I doubt that him staying will affect our other signings - it may even boost them, as it shows that he wanted to join a bigger clu, but eventualy joined us, indicating he sees us as the equals of ajax/sevilla etc.

...actualy, the ofcial site says an agreement still has not been reached, with a few technical dicultys remaning. But anyway, im sure that he will sign, eventually...
pompeycarpet
We need another striker or two, if Kanu can get 10 this year and one of our current boys gets the same, as soon as the Yak or Freddie sign we will have our 20 goal a season striker.
Owenspompey
I think Kanu, Benjani, Lua Lua, Nugent make a pretty decent strikeforce. I don't want to see wholesale changes but a gentle progression of players - there's always the January transfer window if need be. Look at Arsenal and Blackburn.
Pompeyscum
starting strikers again derby, someone started something on this in the forum - i was going benji and nugent, but would not be surprised to see benji and lua tbh... if we an get the other striker we wont be short of options will we!
pompeyrug
think were all pretty much agreed it will be Benji and one other. I reckon it will be nugent. Will Utaka start wide right in place of GO'N?
pompey4me
quite possibly mate - but with it being an away game 'arry might not be that adventurous...
pompeyrug
pompeycarpet said about having a 'trial run' of the prediction lge for the leicester match, so if you are in go here...
pompeyrug
i reckon he was always going to sign, just hates pre-season!
paultsmouth
Andy Cole has left and so has Collins whatsisname, is this clearing the decks for a new signing or am i reading too much into it? Kanoute to be at the Walkers Stadium tomorrow, that would be a wicked rumour to start.
Owenspompey
Haha....Kanoute to sign tomorrow? Would be great, but a lot of money was being quoted for him considering he's 29. I reckon coughing up that little bit more for the Yak would guarantee more goals.
Tantona
As for Kanu, if he can show some of the hunger and skill he showed in the first half of last season then fantastic. And we really do need a few boides up front, it's the one area where we don't have masses of options really....especially during the ANC (Kanu will most likely be there too anyway).
Tantona
Rumours in the spanish press is that the ARRse are inquiring about kanoute, if this is to put pressure on us i do not know.

For a bit of a laugh and moral support i went with my QPR mate to watch them play aginst fulham ( i reeealy reeealy do think FFC are going to go down) anr QPR came back from behind to win 2-1. I heard from some one that pompey are enquiring about fulham's Rosenior. Question 1, anyopne else heard this? and from what i saw last night the question 2 is why do we want him? He looked like *****e
russellm
all right an anaangram os shiet
russellm
that was meant to say anagram, now ive made my self look like an anagram of a complate twta
russellm
tbh russ i think rosenior is good young talent mate and think that he would be worth having if the price was right? he could play in midfield or at the back and get up and down the pitch just as easily... fulham are looking to flog him i believe, so maybe that had something to do with the performance?
pompeyrug
I doubt if we have moved on the 1 + 1 deal.
