Trialist signs contract with Pompey

There was I thinking to myself 'I wonder what is going to happen with this fella Christophe we have had on trail', then low and behold I check the Pompey site and they have announced his permanent signing on a 2 year contract.

The 19 year old has been signed from Lens after impressing in several pre season friendlies this summer, the latest of which came as a sub against Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

My thinking, before I was aware that he had in fact signed, was that Harry Redknapp would not have kept him around so long if he was not interested, as he had featured against Havant, Eastleigh and Bournemouth, as he will probably also tonight against Newport.

Jean Francois Christophe is a tall fella, with legs longer than some people are tall and although he looks a bid gangly and awkward like a Djimi Traore he seems to posses a fair bit of talent, which the club have realised and snapped him up, although it is expected that he will be loaned out this season to gain more first team experience.

he is 'one for the future' tho isnt he mate - i would doubt we will see much, if any of him at all this season, if we do at all? remeber berlin last season... with another striker likely to arrive and maybe a winger something has to give doesnt it, but o'brien, cole and mbesuma would be heading the list of players to go wouldnt they... as much as i want to keep matty taylor if someone is willing to pay £8.5m im not that sure it would be rejected tbh...

as much as 8.5million is a large sum of money, I dont think we should be looking to sell. He is a great playor, he is english, and he can score goals from the midfield. As many people say, we should not be looking to sell our best playors, particualy not to rivals, and as yet, we havnt looked like getting a wide left man (neither kranjcar or muntari are natural left wingers), and as other clubs have found, left sided playors are very much in demand at the moment. i hope he doesnt go - even for 8.5 million. ......... with regard to christoph, he is clearly one for the future, and I would not expect to see him next season,apart from in the reserves.

Got to admit, i've been impressed with the lad on the two occasions i've seen him in Pre-Season, a good buy for the future.

yep i think the loss of Givannithrough dithering has got the message through. Christophe was considered one for the future in Lens but he didnt get the games and became a bit disenchanted. He didnt seem bad when i saw him, although bournemouth, Yeovil are not exactly prem level. I assume he is a one for the future buy but i would rather we upped the search for a non african striker. I understand that we are rumoured to bid for Martins, this would be great but he would be yet another off for ANC in january next year.

im not too sure about martins tbh russ, i think i would rather we looked eslewhere for someone - altho clearly if he arrived i wouldnt kick up a fuss... christophe would not have been signed if he wasnt good enough would he, lets hope this search for a new striker is concluded by the time derby comes around, altho we still have 30 days to find him dont we if needed...

30 ndays and counting. im abou as sure we will get a striker as i am sure that we wont get martins (yes, we are a much better team than newcastle, of course, and yes i think we will do better, but overall, our aims are the same - uefa cup place and maybe a cup to go with it...)

You are right mate, Martins is off the scale and wont be coming to us. Christophe is going to be a good one like Arnold so we are looking beyond the short term older type player we used to invest in, he will probably go out to Bournmouth or the like to get experience and then we can look again next season. Matty for 8.5 million as much as i love him i bet that would turn a few heads in the boardroom. He is a cracking guy and plays with his heart on his sleeve, we need him. Bouazza for Pompey?
